Waiting on a new 22 build that should be here next month so in the market for a scope. Currently running 2 Burris XTR3 and 3 XTR pros on my match rifles. I love the 1/4 mil reticles and pretty much everything about the scopes and they have been rock solid for me over the years.

Over the last 2 years age has started to catch up with me and my eyes are starting to go down hill. So my question to the group, are there any optics I can grab on the used market for around $2k that will be a decent step up in glass resolution and ability to cut the mirage?

I have looked through a few ZCO and they are a fairly large step up but I’m not willing to pay the price.

Mark 5’s I have looked through are not as good of glass as the pros I use to me.

Scopes I’m aware of that “might” be an improvement are rzr gen3, Theos, Zeiss S3??? I have not been able to look through any of those to compare so would like feedback there.

Also really like that the Burris has a pretty forgiving paralax setting, can usually set it and forget it for most stages and would like what ever I buy to be similar.

Open to other ideas as well unless it’s people jumping in to say stop being poor and buy a ZCO.

The Razor G3 you mentioned will be a definite step up, although not earth shattering. Same for the ATACR. What you're getting more of in those two is really mechanical (tactile turrets etc...) more than glass...but the glass IS better.

The S3 that you mentioned will have better contrast, but not clarity/resolution IME. However, the reticle will stand out more for sure, and that will make a difference if trying to shoot stuff other than paper targets.

My NX8 is basically a wash in glass with my Pro. I'd run the NX8 only if weight were a factor.

Those are the four that I have in addition to the XTR Pro.

So the Razor, S3 and ATACR aren’t a large step up in glass? If it’s not a big improvement I strongly prefer the SCR 1/4 reticle over the others.

The turrets are plenty good for me on the Burris, I’m not super picky when it comes to the turrets as long as I don’t get lost, they line up, and are accurate which in my experience the Burris have all been.

They're a step up... but you're not going to have your socks blown off by the increase. Diminishing returns definitely occurred for me. Glass quality is subjective, so others may have varying mileage.

Having done my own head-to-head at first/last light, and looking at tree bark/cow hair at distance, I really liked the resolution of my Pro for what I paid for it. The SCR is a good reticle for target shooting too.

That being said, my XTR III has more tactile turrets, and my Pro had to go back for a broken erector. So I'm less sold on it than others. It works great. I paid $1,4xx for mine, and for that price I'd buy again. It has the best "glass" at that price point. But if you gave me $2K, I'd be buying something else.

XTR pro is one of the better ones in that price category

look for a used ZCO with a MPCT2 reticle or maybe a Tangent with a Gen2XR
- those will be $2800-3000ish or so, but definitely what you are looking for
