Our 2017 DMR/RECCE course is open for student registration. This is a 2.5 day course consisting of some AM classroom instruction on concepts followed by guided live fire evolutions that provide the student with the ability to put the course material to work in a practical application.

EQUIPMENT LIST:
  • Semi-automatic rifle in .223, .308 or any other caliber with a similar parent case
  • Rifle must be equipped with a magnified optic.
    • RECCE: (accurized fighting rifle, optic 4-6x) with sling.

  • Five magazines for the rifle
  • Shooting mat

  • Data book / Notebook
  • Appropriate clothing for weather
  • Spare/extra rifles are encouraged

  • Spotting scope optional
  • If you have an NFA suppressor, it is most welcome.
  • Muzzle brakes – OK, but you may find yourself grouped with others who have them.
CONCEPTS OF INSTRUCTION:
  • RECCE/DMR/SDM Definition, Role, and capabilities
  • Demand and expectation of the DMR & RECCE platforms, and how it differs from other roles
  • A look at different and useful ways to configure both platforms
  • Ballistics, Trajectory
  • Review on range estimation
  • Practical Alternative zeroing techniques
  • SBU prone engagements
  • Significant Reticle work
  • Multiple target engagement techniques
  • Working with non-traditional support
  • Shooting from hasty positions
  • Some work on traditional unsupported positions
  • Full darkness night fire (illuminated targets)
  • Scenario based final exam
Most of the live fire target work will be guided exercises, but there will be a fair amount of practice time afforded to the students. The course must be taken with a semi-auto in any short action caliber (223, or a 308 bolt face caliber such as 260, 6.5, .243) but if you wish to bring a second rifle to shoot recreationally or get long range dope for, you are encouraged to do so. Even .50BMG is acceptable but must be fired from a designated spot.
  • The club offers lodging in the clubhouse main room for $10/night Thursday & Friday. Bring a cot and sleeping bag. The staff stays on site.
  • The club also cooks breakfast and lunch both days. It is excellent home cooked food and is highly recommended. It is so nice to not have to worry about what you are eating while traveling.

Just a FYI, we still have spots left in this course.

Come on out and start pushing your semi-auto precision rigs and RECCE class guns as far out as you can get. You'll be surprised what they are capable of.

To anyone looking to take any classes conducted by BHTC you will be instructed by the very best
I just took the DMR / Reece class and it was a blast
As a beginner to the longer ranges I learned a great deal about my equipment and how to use it properly as well as learning a lot about myself
Myself and my friend and business partner Greg stayed at the Super 8 which was adequate all there other personnel stayed at the Club house which also seamed to be on par
We however missed out on the comradery
AAR:
Friday16 June 2017 0800: The day started out with a gourmet breakfast in the club house an extremely informative discussion on the fundamentals followed by another gourmet meal
then out to the range where we did a quick 100y zero then proceeded to engaged targets out to 1035y also learning several unconventional shooting positions such as using post as support while standing as well as seated positions but most of the day was in the prone
As the day progressed we developed range and dope cards to used terrain features to acquire range markers though out our field of fire
We used our dope utilizing scope turrets as well as holding over
Most of the ranges we encountered were not standard and varied i.e. 4 40 511 etc.... I shot most of the day with an Armalite Sass suppressed with Leupold MK4 4x14
Somewhere in the later afternoon I switch to a MK12 suppressed with a 4x16 Vortex PST VIPER (P.O.S.) which shock me hitting the 1035 with a 22 cal. bullet (wood was achieved)
We broke for dinner then proceeded for night ops where we engaged Targets that were illuminated with a green laser at various ranges
After all the firearms were secure we retired to the club house to smoke a few cigars and indulged in some fine spirits
Saturday 17 June 2017 0800: We started out again with a great meal and back out to the range to practice some more unconventional shooting positions practice what we lerned and prepare for the qualification
The day ended with certificate presentation and some well deserved congratulations for all
My self and Greg needed to head back to home base to complete some customer work so we said out goodbyes and set course for home
Equipment failures where minimal The vortex scope erector froze and became inoperable and I had a wardrobe malfunction that actually helped to keep the family jewels cool in the hot humid weather
End AAR:
I have to say that being a newbie the smaller class really help but I'm sure no matter what the size my experience would have been the same "Outstanding"
Thank you to everyone for making this an outstanding weekend
Fred and the rest of the Cadre where extremely professional and easy to learn from (Thank you Mike and Ben for the extra guidance)
This is a top notch outfit and I look forward to many more classes with them
Thank you again

Thanks a lot for writing that up Wayne! And thanks to all who came out. This was a great group of shooters that definitely brought some game.

You missed out on the snoring too, so it kind of evens out. :)

We teach from the gun, not from a lawn chair. One of the staff always demos or shoots the drill with the students.

Here's the final exam these guys had.

There were five difficult scenarios in the final exercise. To earn a passing score on your certificate you had to successfully complete three of them.

1 - Five target hold over drill (to 625Y): All targets must be hit within :60 from supported prone. The largest target was IDPA size. 500Y, 525Y, 550Y, 611Y, 625Y.

2 - Three target hold over drill standing (to 550Y): Three targets must be hit from standing position, braced on the post using the instructed (secret sauce) technique. 500Y, 525Y, 552Y.

3 - Five headshots (300 to 500Y): Head shaped steel targets must be hit within :60. 300Y, 375Y, 402Y, 450Y 500Y.

4 - Sitting @300Y: Must score 3 hits with 5 rounds on a reduced size target.

5 - Road Patrol: Take out a road patrol from a concealed position into the forest edge, shooting from a rotten tree stump. 450 and 525Y.

All but one student made three of these.

The high shooter card went to a US Army LTC shooting an AR-10T. He was the only shooter that cleaned up all five scenarios.
