Hi,

Registration is officially open for our first course of the year. March 29-30, Fri-Sat.

This is a structured, formal precision rifle course with learning objectives and a final exam. We have been teaching this course for several years, and we continue to improve and refine it.

Students will fire from zero distance out to 1025Y.

New for this course, we are taking experience level into account on the front end of the course so that we can team up students with similar skill levels and goals.

The course includes two days of training, and also full darkness night fire at distance on Friday night using a variety of target illumination techniques.

You will learn a LOT, and you will have a lot of fun doing it too. If you want reviews or recommendations, all you have to do is ask right here.

Full details and online registration are available at our website, under "Open Courses."

http://www.bhtcorps.com/wp/?page_id=31

We will also be offering the Impact Data Book set up specifically for the course. Please indicate at registration time if you would like one.

Once we accumulate a roster we will send out payment instructions, and links to some pre-course ballistic calculator assignments that we have put together to cut through the fog of what can be a complex topic. We will still cover it in detail in the course, but going through this introduction will leave you completely prepared for that block of instruction.

Bunking at the clubhouse is available for $10/night, and home cooked breakfast and lunch for $15/day (recommended). These two fees and the databook if purchased should be furnished the day of the course commencement.

Please be sure to read the equipment requirements, refund policy, and PLEASE check with us first before you purchase any equipment for the course.

Any questions, just PM me or email.

Thanks, and we hope to have you on board with us!

Freddie-
this is the basic class, correct?
and the advanced is going in 24-25 May, correct? I'm going to try to move mountains to attend the advanced class...

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/28-29, LEWISTOWN PA

Correct James, this is the initial/intermediate. Adv. is later in the year.

Rob - we gotta get you handloading. You don't know what you're missing! Glad to have you back again. I'm gonna ride you like a donkey this time. LOL

Guys this class is great...alot of intuitive information shared during these two days and the night fire is an absolute blast!

You will leave a better shooter and the bonus is a data book with 100-1025yds worth of drop and wind data.

Hope all is well Freddy!

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/28-29, LEWISTOWN PA

I checked the website to see if this was a typo, but do you guys mean the 29th/30th March, because that would be Friday/Saturday. 28/29 March is Thursday/Friday.

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/28-29, LEWISTOWN PA

Just seeing this now, thinking it might be a good opportunity to get out there and learn! I've been to one of fargo's competitions before as a spectator, and have been wanting to get out to Lewistown and give 1000+ yards a shot.

(Plus it's my birthday weekend, seems like a good excuse).

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/29-30, LEWISTOWN PA

It looks interesting. It is about five hours from where I live. I am pretty sure I would enjoy it and learn a lot. But before I think about signing up I need to know a few things.

First and most important is about safety: Do you have a zero tolerance policy toward accidental discharges? I do not mean the "I missed the target and hit the berm near the target" kind of accidental discharges. I mean the "oops I shot the wall of the clubhouse because I thought the gun was unloaded, well no big deal" kind of accidental discharges. The first guy could be me on a bad day. If the second guy is not IMMEDIATELY asked to leave, then I would have to go, because that's just not who I am.

Is this just a one rifle course or would it be possible to bring a short range .223 and a long range .338?

I have shot many of Freddy's matches and safety is always a top priority, as it should be. Unloaded weapons and chamber flags are typically used when not firing or moving, along with keeping the muzzle down and pointed in a safe direction.

With that said, accidents do happen, but I would think anyone paying this amount of money to be instructed would have the control and ability to prevent an accidental discharge into a clubhouse building located no where near the firing line.

+1
Safety has always been top priority at the BHTC events I have attended (all of them matches). You are in good hands with them.

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/29-30, LEWISTOWN PA

Thanks for speaking to the issue guys.

We don't allow ANY live ammo in the classroom. It's the first slide everyone sees.

If something like that were to happen, that person would be escorted off the club grounds mos' rikki tik. The old war horses at the club would probably give him a WWII vet ass-kicking too.

But seriously - all of our instructors and most of our line coaches are NRA certified range safety officers. This course has a single, well defined firing line and all the rifles are pointed safely at the mountain the entire time. We spend time talking about safety, and we enforce it.

You are welcome to bring a .338, a .50bmg, whatever and accumulate dope with it out to the full extent of the range, but I would NOT want you to try to use it for the course, or tear our short range targets all up.

Your biggest learning envelope will be with a non-magnum caliber like .308, 7mm, or any of the 6.5mm flavors. Plus it's really unpleasant for a newer shooter to get stuck next to one of those ultimate behemoths all day.

Make that 5. I might have missed something, but I didn't see where it said to remit payment (or how much the impact databook runs). Could just be that I have not had my coffee yet.

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/29-30, LEWISTOWN PA

I sent that stuff out two days ago before you were on the roster. Standby, it's forthcoming in a few minutes.

Get me a medium, no sugar if you're going. ;-)

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/29-30, LEWISTOWN PA

I finally got off my butt and registered. I am really looking forward to this. I am considering the lodging question, is there a near by hotel that you can recommend? If my wife and kids want to get out of the house is there a nearby (fifth wheel suitable) campground?

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/29-30, LEWISTOWN PA

There is a Quality INN and a super 8 two miles from the range. I am really not sure on the campground question. You can camp on the club grounds for $10/night but there are no hook-ups.

If you are coming by yourself you can always bring a cot and sleeping bag and bunk in the clubhouse for $10/night Thursday and Friday. This is what the staff does.

Re: BHTC 2 DAY PRECISION RIFLE 3/29-30, LEWISTOWN PA

Just signed up. Got my welcome email within the hour! Looking forward to a good weekend of shooting!

Fargo,

Any word on the equipment list for this? I wanted to make sure I had time to order anything I might need in time for the course.. Really looking forward to spending my birthday weekend out there!

There shouldn't be anything special to go out and purchase beyond what is listed in the announcement. The biggest thing is not to use that small 6-9" harris bipod. Get the 9"-13" swivel model.

Also make sure you bring your scope manual, and any small allen wrenches or other tools needed to conduct turret adjustments on your scope.

There will be a reporting instructions email going out soon with directions and a reminder list with all this and more.

Well, I am running an Atlas on my rig, which gets me between 7-10" of extension. I'm a small guy so I'm going to have to make due with 3" less. :)

If you don't want to go out to eat friday nite-holly's planning a special roast in the crock pot at the clubhouse!!!!
Jeff

Fargo, how late do you envision each day's classes running? I'm going to be running back and forth from state college and have some festivities to plan on Saturday night so I wanted to get an idea of what the schedule was.

Really looking forward to this!

Did that last email that Fargo mentioned go out? I haven't heard a peep in a while and I wanted to make sure it didn't end up getting nuked by my spam filters.

Reporting instructions email just went out. Check your email.

Clue - we should be dismissing students with their certificates around 4pm latest on Saturday, right after the final exercise.

Grouse - that sounds great to me!

I got a lot of stuff to get ready.

Thanks Freddy, just got it! Hoping the weather shapes up a bit by the weekend, waking up this morning was a pretty crappy late march surprise.
