I thought that I would let the community know that I just tested out a new 260 built on a Big Horn Action using a Mark Channlyn barrel that was put together by Dave Sullivan (Westwind Rifles). Withe surgeon bottom metal and AI mags, gun feeds flawlessly. The first three shots went into just under 3/8" at 100yards.

Did a "Ladder Test" using H4350 (one shot each of 41.5g, 41.9g, 42.3 ... 44.3 gr H4350). The group of 8 shots came out about 1/2" high and 1" wide (1/2 of them touching) at 200 yards. So fun ...

Like I said before - mine is a hammer - great action.

Anymore when I get a custom rig built it's going to be on a Bighorn action with Mark making one of his barrels for it.

Re: Bighorn Actions - are as they say "The Bomb"

Folks, I will attempt to post pics this weekend when I get back from business travel.

Specs:

Mark Chanlynn 6.5 barrel 1:8.5 twist) heavy Match contour (fluted) 26.0"
Action: Big Horn
Bottom Metal: Surgeon.
Stock: McMillan A-3 (adj cheek piece + fore end rail)
Wt: 13.4 lbs w/optics

Note I cannibalized a 6.5x284 that I was using for a 1000 yard "any/any" gun to build this DBM repeater. The barrel (was 28") already had 900 rounds down it. The best things about this approach to building a new gun is that I didn't spend $400+ on a new barrel and better yet I didn't have to mess around breaking it in ...

Re: Bighorn Actions - are as they say "The Bomb"

how are the big horn actions for bolt to raceway fit? Are they tactical only or would it double as a benchrest type of action? In other words are they tight or pretty loose? I know my gunsmith Jon Beanland is sure impressed with them. thats says a lot to me. I am going to be building a varmint/ tactical rig here pretty quick and i will need an action. I just ordered a Defiance machine benchrest action and i am super exceitted about it. I may just gowith one of there tactical actions as well. I heard that george gardner thinks they are special! LOL!!! Lee

After shooting my rig built by Mark Chanlynn with one of his barrels I was very impressed with the accuracy and I was able to develop 3 different loads that worked very well in it. I don't know if it is ok to use as a benchrest action but I sure would after seeing how well built it is. Contact Mark and see if he'd recommend it as a benchrest action.

I spoke with Mark today about it being used as a benchrest action. He said they also make an action that is a single shot setup (no magazine cutout at all). He said that would work well for a benchrest rifle or even a varmint rifle.
I have the action that has the magazine cutout and it's a tack driver.
