Movie Theater Black Panther

Its one of the best reviewed films of the year, and until Infinity War came out was the highest grossing Marvel film of all time.

I plan to watch it this weekend with the wife.

Early in the film there is an explanation of Wakanda and the fiction that Africans given mineral wealth will develop fantastic technology and that's all that separates them from being in charge of everything.

At the same time, their social structure seems to be based upon tribalism and a royal succession scheme which includes combat.

With the reality of Africa pretty easy to determine, it is clear that African mineral wealth has never turned in to a wealthy country except for South Africa which was run exclusively by Europeans. I kind of think tribalism is to blame for that. Tribalism is also a reason why slave ships filled up.

I think that's kind of a dangerous message compared to a Jewish guy writing about an orphaned space alien coming to earth with super powers to fight for "truth, justice and the American way".

I don't think there is anything wrong with black people having comic book super heroes but having an origin story like that is promoting division rather than unity.

It's a very hypocritical SJW message.

I just watched it, it felt like an apologist film... like, oh, North African culture is just as relevant... it had to create a make believe culture to do so though... a high technology culture that is still mired in tribalism?

Please... it was mildly entertaining. But the SJW undertones killed it for me.

And I’m not racist.

It's like they want it both ways. Preserve an ancient behind the curve civilization while promoting it as superior in every way; morally, technologically and of course, racially. Anyone not liking this movie is likely on a gov't watch list

Exactly. I’m all for preserving the past, but they tried to create relevancy that didn’t exist.

I get it, it’s just a movie, but it had too much of Something..... ah, yes..... Dichotomy.....

Sadly, it’s hard not to read racial overtones into this thing with the way the media handled it. The dialog didn’t help......”better to jump off of a ship and die than be a slave” or something to that effect. We don’t promote, condone nor would ever allow slavery in CONUS. Yes it happened here and the folks responsible are dead and gone. Only two races of people......good and bad. Bender, I’m with you bro she was hot?

I thought it was by far the most overhyped movie of the last 5 years. I’d put it at the very bottom of all the Marvel Movies. Some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen outside of a “B” movie.
