Hey guys. Just built my SBR 300BO and shot some 168vmax at around 1800fps. Man it slammed the buffer hard. This is my first experience with pistol length tubes so I dint know the pressure was that much more. Guess I never really thought about it. My question is what I need to go with to fix it. I know I need a heavier buffer but how much and do I need a spring? How are hydraulic buffer systems. Any advice helps.

I use an VLTOR A5 system and it seems to work well. I've used the H2, H3, & H4 buffers from the A5 line and all have been good to go.

are you shooting handloads or factory?? I sometimes shoot 150gr handloads in my SBR. They're traveling about 1750 fps. But, normally I save the supers for my 16" blackout. I built the SBR for sub rounds. The pistol system in the shorter barrels are finicky....my 8" SBR I ended up butting the JP Silent Capture buffer in it.... a little expensive but worth the money. And buy the spring kit so you can set the weight of the buffer. It's particularly useful when you shoot subsonic. You never hear the buffer!

The pistol gas in 300BLK is the preferred gas port location because its NOT as finicky as carbine gas. The 300BLK needs the slightly higher pressures the pistol gas port gives for reliable function. Ive got a decent amount of experience with the AAC 9" and Noveske 8.2" and BOTH have run anything and everything I have put through them in both subs and supers. Carbine gas barrels tend to have "issues" especially running subs unsuppressed. To fix this you have to open up the gas port quite a bit which isnt an issue since its basically impossible to over gas a 16" carbine barrel.
The issue I currently have is basically no manufacturers are making 16" pistol gas barrels. Noveske is and so is CMMG. I wont run CMMG as their chambers are known to be VERY tight.
I should have continued that. All 300blk are finicky. My 16" was a little worse than my 8" but with that said, once you get all the kinks worked out they shoot like a dream

I've yet to talk to anyone that didn't have issues with their blackout when they first got or built it.
