Some days you just fall in it.

Was browsing barrel inventories this weekend, dreading putting in the order with Krieger and starting the 12 month wait when I checked the on the rack inventory at Bartline....

    Some days you just gotta.

(I'm guessing that that order I placed two yrs ago with Rock Creek got lost)

300/308 34" 5R 1:10 Heavy Palma (which is exactly what I have spec'd on the Krieger sheet)

Wade, you gonna cut this one to 32 inch? My current barrel im shooting is 30 but im thinking of 32 on the next barrel as i have weight (a pound) to spare now that i've gone to a lighter bipod. Im either gonna go longer or stick with a 30 and go heavier contour i guess.

Jade, the rifle that will need rebarrel first only weighs 14.7 all up with a 30" Heavy Palma on it now. I'm currently planning to have it cut to 32. I tried a 34 for a month or two last yr and didn't see that it gained me anything.

If you are running Varget I don't think the extra length buys you much of anything, it's too fast and the pressure drops off before you get to the end of the tube. I'd go with a heavier profile and a 30 inch barrel. You need to run a slower powder to gain any advantage from a longer barrel.

My rifle that is running a 32 now is chambered for 185s. The load that we've talked about that I have been developing with 2000MR turned out to be one tenth less at the bottom of the node. With 185s it is giving me almost exactly 2800 at the bottom of the node in 40 degree weather. I'll keep an eye on it as the temperature comes up but it should be good unless I leave the bullets in the sun, on the dash for a couple of hours in July.

I remembered you telling me that you had tried that barrel at 34 then cut it back to 32 but i didn't know if you were gonna go 32 again with this one. The 30 incher im running now is a heavy palma so i could go heavy varmit or maybe even heavier if i go 30 inch. I'll probably run Varget or N-150 as those two powders have been giving me great results in this current barrel with 185s and 200s. As for the 2000MR powder, you should be fine with your load. I actually worked up my load with it in the summer time when it was 90 degree. I thought i was running right at 2800 but my chrono was reading low, i tested it again with two different Ohler 35s and i was actually running 2825-2835 with a 28 inch 11 twist Krieger with 185s (Hybrids or Juggernauts). In that particular barrel it shot the hybrids better.
