Local law enforcement officials in Northeast Washington state are worried about a pack of dogs that have attacked at least 100 animals since March. The pack, they fear, is now "killing for fun."

The wild dogs took out a 350-lb llama on Tuesday night, the latest in a string of attacks that have left more than 100 goats and other farm animals dead in the ranching community of Stevens County. The dogs, whose breeds are so far unknown, emerge only at night, but residents in their predatory range in the valleys and mountains near Spokane are afraid the canines may be getting bolder.

"I think they are capable of do anything at this point," Deputy Sheriff Keith Cochran told KXLY4, adding that he's worried the animals may just be preying on area creatures for the sport of it. Undersheriff Lavonne Webb told the AP the pack is " killing for the sake of killing."

"They are doing it to be cruel, they're bloodthirsty," resident Temma Davis told the station. "It's like 'Cujo.' "

Webb told the AP it's possible some of the four or five dogs in the pack aren't wild and go home to their owners during the day. One resident managed to snap a photograph of the pack, above.

Re: Bloodthirsty Dogs Washington State?

I posted on WestCoastTactical as a LOT of those guys live in the AO.

Tha'ts about 350 miles from me.

We had a similiar issue years back but the people got together and took care of it.

Hate to kill a dog but when it comes to this, Dogs stick together and go wild right quick.

Re: Bloodthirsty Dogs Washington State?

I had a pack of dogs (well 3-4) roaming my neighobrhood (actually I live in the country.

They hamstrung, crippling one of my granddaughters hourses, and when she went to get the mail (on the highway, a mile from the house) they wouldn't let her out of the truck.

I put the word out, stray dogs crossing my pasture are moving targets. Owners can find them hung up on a fence post.

I'm sure there's a shooter stationed up at fairchild.

Otherwise, someone get on the horn to the SERE guys and ask a few of them to stalk them as prey during their courses

LOL *Redman actually lives near Fairchild, and the dogs are up north - there's 6 or 7 WCT members up there..

I'll have to go over and see who's going hunting...

Re: Bloodthirsty Dogs Washington State?

So the dogs chill at home during the day. Then at night head over to their friends place to hook up ? "Yo, wanna go tip over a cow tonight? bark bark "

I'd be afraid if the dogs were communicating like that. Hell my little daschund is smart as heck, but if they were talking, its a cujo experience

Re: Bloodthirsty Dogs Washington State?

That was happening inside Philadelphia about 30 years ago. Same thing. a core group of dangerous strays that local pets would join up with from time to time. They disemboweld about 30 sheep at the "Farm School", a agricultural High Scool run by the School District, and took a bunch of pets out of yards. The city cops had authority to shoot on sight with their service pistols. The pack roamed a wooded park (the Wissahickon valley) about 5 miles long.
I don't remember what happened to them, because I went off to the marines before the matter was settled.

Re: Bloodthirsty Dogs Washington State?

Several well placed "neck-ties" should take care of the problem.
Most animals will set and wait after they have a new collar and leash.
All it takes is a light tap on the nose to remove.
A shovel, fence post, or big stick is your best defense against getting bit.
There is no collar with ID or vac history.
Skunks are harder to get close to after they get PO'D
Basic trapping, not rocket science!

Less money could have been spent on a couple traps, fixing the problem, than taking pictures of it!
