Blugrass Moonshiner

Thoughts, feelings? I am looking into getting into the long range game and my mind is pretty made up on the DTA Stealth Recon Scout. I just hate to say when I picked up the moonshiner at SHOT show it did feel very solid. The barrel (made by mossberg) seems to be the only real weak link. The whole thing was a solid block of steal and takes AR pistol grips. The price is attractive as well. 2K less than the DTA. Just seeing if anyone out there has any additional info on this thing.

They've been around a while; more popular in the .50BMG world though. A few years ago a FCSA shooter won some championship matches with one. This looks like a scaled down version of that rifle. Aside from the FCSA match performance the only other thing I've heard about Bluegrass is that there's a long wait for rifles.

Re: Blugrass Armory Moonshiner .338LM

Several years ago ordered a BGA Viper 50. Here are my personal impressions, to be taken with a grain of salt.
Delivery dates were just words they used. Mine came several months (almost a year) after promises and contact. This was in their old facility in KY, maybe the new shop fixed that issue.
Fit and finish were good, had a few issues with the trigger.
Had to work that out on my own. Got it resolved, but in my opinion, should have been a non issue.
Their mantra had been accuracy, and mine BGA was accurate. I had the hybrid chamber, in a Montana Rifleman bbl and it shot extremely well for a big cartridge, with junk ammo.
Recoil was a non issue. My 8 year old son and a few of his friends had a blast shooting the thing.
Overall a fairly good rifle, made well. I have no idea why the Mossberg BBl but give them a call and ask. I would ask about an accurate and honest delivery date if you decide to order, especially if you are planning to use this rifle in up coming comps.

Re: Blugrass Armory Moonshiner .338LM

Hey Guys,
Just dropped in to answer a few questions. The Moonshiner is our new bull pup .30 caliber bolt rifle. The Moonshiner will not have a Mossberg barrel for its production run. The Mossberg barrel was used for the 2 prototype guns that we displayed at the 2011 SHOT Show. We are currently looking at a June delivery time frame for this rifle. All the specs on the rifle are listed on our website blugrassarmory.com. As for the name Bluegrass Armory, the company did originate in Kentucky and resided there for several years. We purchased the company back in January of 2010 and moved them down to Florida. Ill give you a brief background on us. We have two other companies, one of them being GTO Performance Airboats(the main reason why we are located in Florida). We are the largest manufacturer of airboats in the world. Our other company is Core 15 Rifle Systems; we manufacture AR-15 type rifles, including piston rifles and billet lowers. I invite you to check out our websites and see what we have to offer to the firearms industry. Thanks guys! ~ Justin

Re: Blugrass Armory Moonshiner .338LM

Hi,

sorry for reviving this old threat, but I didnt find any more recent info on the Moonshiner rifle on The Hide.

Has someone had further experience, especially concerning reliability of feeding and ejection, trigger characteristic and the ability of using aftermarket match barrels?

Thanks guys
Larry
