I took a job body armor reccomended but optional. Company will pay for half up to $500 its a part time job so thats kind of em. Might as well take advantage and get somthing decent. My budget is up to grand i spend $500 they will match. I dont now much about what the latest and greatest is. I would like to be light and quick. I would rather not spend $500 if there is somthing good cheaper but thats wherw i am at

What are you thinking? Soft armor, plates, under a uniform over a uniform, low vis/no vis, pistol threat, rifle threat, 8 hour days or 12? Lots of variables to consider...In general more $$$ equals more protection, lighter weight, or both.

Currently there is no magic perfect trade off on body armor.

Bulk visible hardened body armor gives you the best protection, but adds weight, slows mobility, hugely increases your thermal load and can hinder your ability to function for an extended time period.
Lighter flexible armor augmented with plates, is the next best in mobility / weight but also shows up a lot and may make you a target for headshots.
Concealed soft armor with or without a small plate offers a lot of flexibility and some degree of surprise factor, but is still hugely hot and won't protect you as well.

Depending on your environment and the expected threat, you pick the best fit. Unless you are in a war, or pulling sentry duty or are a door kicker, a soft vest under your clothes / uniform is often the best fit, and can be had for around the $500 range for a good one. However you'll find that it gets hot and heavy and restrictive towards the end of a long day no matter how good it is as well as in most outdoor environments (and indoors for that matter).

Just remember that body armor is there to give you an edge or second chance if you slip up and someone gets a round on you, it's best to do all in your power to make sure nobody ever gets that chance.
Also remember if you happen to be up against someone who is a cut above the rest, they may be wearing the same as you and know the limitations and how to work around it, and where to hit you.
Fortunately most of the criminals tend to be idiots, bad shots and usually not in full control of their senses and can barely hit center mass if they are lucky.

Yeah i want comfort. its 3 12 hour days. A week. Im riding shotgun. And providing security for the bagman. Its a courier service no armored car and pretty covert. Total online survelliance cams and gps monitored live coms. Loosley affiliated with a state service. The places we deliver to deal in cash and its loads in the millons. Thats all ill say on that.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask..... Isn't this pretty much exactly how Gecko45 got his inter-stellar notoriety?

I'm just askin'....

. Go here. Made in the U.S.A. the plates I got are 3.3 lb a piece they are water buoyant and can stop 6 rounds of 30.06 in the same location, as well as AK 47 ball 223 ball

ide get a good set of 3A soft armor panels in a external carrier......and personally, if it were me, ide do just front and rear.......especially if armor is optional, the chance of needing it is likely low.

if i had to wear them for 10hrs a day, no way ide wear plates....ive got a full set of AR500 armor for training classes.....and i can wear it for 8 hrs, but im beat afterwards.

even the lighter weight ceramic or UHMWPE plates are bulky as hell, espeically in a vehicle.

Body armor. It all sucks. It's hot, uncomfortable and generally a pain in the ass. I hate it but.....Its like an insurance policy. if you never use it, its a costly nuisance. if you need it, you really really needed it. I sometimes ponder that I will wear it till the day I retire and on my last day some shitbag will shoot me in the face, so I suffered wearing it 30 years for nothing.

Wear it for your parents, your wife, your kids, your dog. Wear it because the prosecutor thinks you are a pain in the ass and his life would be easier if your weren't there. Most of all wear it for you so you can suck every last bit of retirement money out of the pricks you worked your whole life for.

This one looks good, maybe needs a better codpiece.

My favorite quote from the previous discussion (some of you might remember it) was something along the lines of:

"Considering your requirements and application, nothing short of a sandwich-board made with two manhole covers and a length of rope to suspend each from your shoulders is going to suffice. Learn to "go turtle" whilst reloading, and you can roll into lateral positions with practice."

I laughed and laughed, and am not even going to talk about the "tabi-socks/shoes/whatever" for strategically climbing walls.

To the OP, good luck in your endeavour, and I pray that you've at least gotten a little bit of a chuckle with my side-line diversions. I hope that you can appreciate the similarity of openings.

London Bridge Trading had a great deal on plates some year or so ago.

Check with them on what they have available. They have one of the best carriers out there.
