Unless you are a service member or LE, your not going to be buying any plates you would bet your life on. I recommend taking cover. If you are LE or military then you spend some money and buy armor from a reputable retailer. I got mine from Blackhawk and paid about 1800 for plates and soft armor backers back when they were offering military discounts.

Protec was running a special recently. Two level IV plates and carrier for $350 plus you could buy a helmet for 299 with the package.
