OK, it's a long story, but I have it down to two... I'm leaving the calibers out of it to focus on the platforms. Also, ignore the crappy twist on the new m70's: I already know.

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">Sako 85 Finnlight</span></span>
Match barrel
Magazine fed
Accuracy guarantee (whatever that is worth...)
Top notch factory quality throughout

<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Winchester Extreme Weather m70 (FN model w/Bell and Carlson aluminum bedded stock)</span></span>
Stronger aftermarket support
Far less expensive

Intended purpose:
My thought on it is to be a cross between a precision rifle and a hunting rifle. So, basically a lighter precision rifle without some of the do dads, or a more precise and 'tactical' hunting rifle (I'm thinking of toping it off with a NXS).

Thoughts?

Well to me anyway they are both pure sporter's, not a thing tactical about either of 'em.

But call them what you want, they are both fine rifles.

Now the Sako 85 is pure quality, but the Finnlights are all muzzle light bitches. Great for carrying, but off hand
they are wobbly sob's.

The M70 balances better than a Finnlight, and balance trumps weight, unless your more into carrying than shooting.

Hard to go too wrong either way.

Luck,

Bob

Re: Boiled down to two

These are hunting sporter rifles...nothing tactical about them in any way. Both are capable rifles, but personally, I'll pass on anything Beretta has their hands on.

FN is doing a good job with the M70s. I like the Featherweights as well, but the Extreme Weather is one of the best factory packages to come down the pike in a while. I wouldn't change anything .

A big, heavy scope would defeat the concept of a handy field rifle.

Re: Boiled down to two

Went with the m70 in the extreme weather in 308. It seems pretty nice. I handled and looked at a bunch and picked the cherry from the group. $950 out the door. I could have gotten it for less online, but I got to check them out and pick the one that seemed the strongest so I think it's worth it.
