Bolt action seems stiff when chambering a round

So, my stiller tac 30, 6.5x47, using Accurate mags. (Ruger branded) metal box mags, when I run the bolt forward, it seems like a lot of friction to strip the round from the magazine. Both mags are pretty new. I kind of end up pushing the rifle around a bit trying to chamber a round. If I single feed it by resting a round on top of the magazine it chambers nice and smooth. MPA build.
Is this likely a magazine issue?

You may need tweak the feed lips on the mags a little bit, when a round is being stripped from the magazine is it going straight into the feed ramp in a horizontal plane to the chamber or is it angled slightly up?

I'll have to check, but I think it goes pretty straight into battery. Maybe there is too much tension on the feed lips?

yes, I was at a comp, and some of the other shooters watching me thought it jammed, but it didn't jam. Yes, the rounds feed fine, and I feel like there is a lot more tension than there should be.

If you could post a good picture or two with the magazine seated with a dummy round or whichever you prefer that shows the height of the round in relation to the bolt head and feed ramp that would certainly help.
I assume that the issue is the same regardless of how many rounds are in the mag or it is most noticeable with a full magazine.

^^^ Think you may be misreading something, or posting in the wrong thread?


To the OP, I have had similar issues with Accurate mags in both 308 and 223. They may need some feed lip adjustment like some others have mentioned. I've found the polymer mags (like magpul AICS) to be much gentler on the brass, and smoother feeding, but they may not be as durable as the metal ones.

Try some AI mags.

Yes, I bought an AI mag I found in a shop, and of course it was an AX mag. I have a pair of AW mags, but my Tac 30 isn't AW cut. I'll try the magpul mag it came with, and maybe adjust the feed lips on the Accurate mags, and see what that does. It really feels like feed lip friction. I'm on the road right now so I can't get any pics
