I’m building myself a .223 rem 700 for shooting prone. I’m blueprinting the receiver and want to sleeve the bolt. This is more just because I’d like to try sleeving a different way. My question is what are your options on bolt body to raceway clearance. I’ve reamed the raceway to 0.715. This will be a strictly a match rifle so I’d like to tighten it up a bit. Yes I know I could buy a custom action or roll the dice on ordering a PTG bolt. But since I have this action and all of the tooling, I’m working with what I have.
Thanks

Are you looking for 0.0015-0.002” total or per side? My receiver is 0.715” I was going to grind the bolt to 0.713” for 0.001” per side or 0.002” total. I want a tight fit but I’m worried about making it “too tight”.
Thanks
Donald

at the .0015-.002 clearence per side, it runs pretty smooth. If you dont get enough clearence I've ran into the bolt binds up when you go to chamber another round. I think a lot of guys over think how snug you need your bolt to fit, just my thoughts.
