I am sending my bolt off to get a new knob installed and was planning on having the whole bolt coated in cerakote or microslick. i am wondering, what the difference between having it baked or not? (positives vs negatives) and how big of a deal is it to send a very new,not broken in bolt (less than 50 rounds) to be coated? i ask because when i searched it seemed like some of the posts suggested to wait till it was broken in before you do this?

We've done all of our bolts in the bake-on cerakote (along with the rest of the rifles). We just didn't do the bolt face or lugs. It is holding up pretty well, but still wears some.
Since to have to abrasive blast the metal before coating, I don't see why it would matter whether the bolt was "broken in" or not. You're taking off a pretty good amount of the surface to give the coating something to "bite" onto.
As to the bake on vs the air-dry, I see no reason not to use the bake-on stuff. It costs the same, and doesn't have to cure for a long time, and is supposed to last longer.
I don't know anything about microslick.
