I was at the range the other day and was BSing with one of the gents there about his guns. It gave me an idea to put back up sights on my rem 700, kinda like how the stock ruger 10/22 comes with or the savage hog hunter. I am not sure what the technical name of these are. What do you guys think? Is this a stupid endeavor? I like versatility and can only own one rifle right now.

Not stupid, for sure: equiippin' the rifle w.quick release rings, can be possible to use the same picatinny to host some rear sight,_
on the front side, some clamping trick (like some muzzle brake)s can be applied and indexed to have a place for the front sight, without too much gunsmithing work..

New England Custom makes back-ups like you're thinking of. If your barrel has enough meat on it, you could mill a small rail up front for a front sight.

Those New England customs are cool. I will keep those in mind. I was thinking more if having the sights mounted in front of the picitani and have the more rear sight fold out of the way. Maybe a ghost ring can fit and still be used with out having to remove the rail?
