I have been thinking about getting another bolt gun. I have a few options build on an existing Model seven 243 with a extremely smooth action or purchase another. I've been tempted to go the tikka T3 route. I have had Savage and Remington both are nice. So Am i being crazy to not stay with savage or Remington or are the other high dollar brands that much better.
I don't want to sound like money is not an option but saving for the right one would not be a problem

Re: bolt gun what are your thoughts.

Consider that a Remington will offer the most upgrades possible. Trigger, stock, bolt, barrel, scope base, etc...

There is a reason it is the most build on action.

The customs are outstanding if its in your price range. In the end it all comes down to price. If this is going to be a one shot deal with plenty of funds, go custom. If this will be a working build, go Remington.

Unless your going big like .338 I would stay with a remington
action. Just to many available options not to. What caliber you building? A .260 sounds fun.

Re: bolt gun what are your thoughts.

Savage lets you be more flexible at a lower cost since you can swap barrels at home. Once action/stock setup can shoot many calibers. If you like your existing Savage setup, maybe just get a barrel and try another caliber on your existing setup. Get a long action and have unlimited options.

What is your intended use of this rifle (specifically)?

How many rounds per year do you plan to shoot?

Do you reload? If yes do you seriously plan to hand load for this rifle?

Serious answers will lead you to the correct caliber.
