Bolt or auto? Swap my 700 for an SPR?

Sorry, I wasn't sure whether to post this in the bolt forum or the auto forum.

The problem is, I can't really afford to shoot it much. Those pics were tken in 2010. That's the last time I shot the rifle other than a deer hunt this year. The closest range over 75 yds is 2 hrs one way. Also, the price of ammo ($28/20rnds) is prohibitive for me.

Part #2: I really want an SBR, but don't have any spare cash. I also have a nice 16" Daniel Defense AR, Flattop with 14.0 lite rail, Aimpoint T1, and 3X magnifier.

My thought is to sell the bolt gun and the 3X magnifier, which will allow me enough cash to get the SBR I want, and transform the current 16" AR into an SPR.

The range (2 hrs away) only goes out to 700yds. That shouldn't be an issue for the SPR. Also, I'd have less expensive ammo ($36/50rnds for 75gr BH), and commmon ammo and parts with my SBR.

My main question is, what would I really be giving up within my situation parameters by going with the SPR over the bolt gun and is it a good choice or not.

keep the bolt gun, sell the magnifier, buy a reloading press with the money and start rolling your own ammo. The savings will buy you whatever you want in the long run.

I think it's a bad choice.

Never sell one gun to buy another. You'll regret it forever (like the one you already sold). I've never sold a gun and then felt good about not having that gun. It might seem like a good idea at first.

If you can't afford the ammo for your bolt gun. Then you really won't be able to afford the ammo for a semi-auto. You shot more with a semi. So, your savings in ammo is lost in the long run.

You really need to start reloading. Over the long run, you save tons of money. You pay about 1/4 the amount you pay for factory ammo. I am now loading the equivilant of Hornady 168gr match grade ammo. I use my already once fired brass (free) and with only buying powder, primer and bullets. I can fire the same ammo (but better tuned to my gun) for about 40 buck for 100 rounds. If I were to shoot the same factory ammo it would cost me about 42.00 (that's with tax) for a box of 20 at my local shooting store. I could shoot way cheaper ammo (but why should I) by using cheaper bullets and save even more. What's the moral of the story. I can shoot 3 times as much as you for the same amount of money.

You can buy a complete RCBS rock chucker starter kit that includes everything you need to start pumping out ammo for about 350.00 bucks.

Start reloading and save up to buy the semi-auto and keep the bolt gun.

Dont sell the gun to finance accessories (or similar). that sbr will be fun but you will shoot just as much ammo ($ value) because you can shoot it so fast. The joy will no longer be in the pursuit of accuracy but rather how fast or how many holes you can shoot. I have done this once and wont do it again.
