Why does this paper that came with my surgeon XL action say that the bolt nose recess should be 0.870" diameter when the bolt nose only measures 0.740" diameter?

Because the extractor needs to snap over the cartridge rim and the extra space is needed to clear the extractor.

Ahh, that makes sense. This is the first rifle I have built that doesn't use the standard Remington extractor. Thanks again for the help.
