I have seen some impressive stuff on here from .30CalSniper. Do any other forumites paint stocks professionally or semi-professionally? I may give one of my cheaper stocks a try myself, but taking krylon to an $800 McMillan is a bit more than I feel comfortable with right now.

If I'm not mistaken McMillan paints there stocks if its not a molded in color or camo.

I was told they use an automotive grade paint them solid colors.

I have a black A5 that will be painted OD green by my smith, he uses the same automotive paint McMillan does.

I use STR (Suarez Tactical Rifles)

Call Ozzie and see if he can paint it for you if you want a solid color.

Don't be a pussy, and practice on something else...like a chunk of 2x4, or a boat paddle.

Another one to check out is Eddie Fosnaugh @ Fosnaugh Customs.
He can do about anything you want with Cerakote on a stock. He is doing a LVSF 7mm-08 right now in Desert Camo.
Nice guy and great to work with.

Re: Boring black stocks: where to have them painted

If you want a nice DIY, you can try the Brownells spray grit paint. I just did a stock with it(dried about an hour ago) and I like it. It is just gritty enough to have some "feel" to it, but not enough to cringe when you get your cheek weld.

I tried this after using Krylon for years. It holds up to solvents MUCH better. As a matter of fact, I bought a stock with the spray grit on it and was going to remove it. It was nigh near impossible to get off with acetone.

Don't be scared. Just jump in with both feet.

This is my Tikka done with Krylon. It was so shiny and ugly I figured I had nothing to loose on the deal.
