Rifle Scopes BORS and angle adjustment for distance?

I am trying to understand how the BORS works for adjusting the effective distance based on angle. So if you use a laser range finder on an angle do you just dial in the distance on the bors? Do you have to hold the rifle level and dial in the distance then hold on target? Just trying to get my head around how that works.

I believe you just range the target, dial the range into the BORS, then send it.
