Movie Theater Bose, Beats, or Sony

Looking for a new set of wireless noise-cancelling headphones to use at home.

Primary use will be for watching movies and playing a video game or two.

No need for a mic because I don’t talk trash while playing GOW.

My house can be loud at night due to: open floor plan with hardwood floors, wife and 3 children.

I had a set of Turtle Beach wireless for years, but they developed pairing issues.

My entertainment components run to a Sony receiver via optical.

if you dont need a mic, i highly recommend the Bose QC 35. But if you do game, even if you dont cuss at 8 year olds while doing it, the Turtle Beach Elite 800's are awesome because of their functionality. They have movie mode, music mode, game mode and stereo. in addition they allow for dual connection so you can have your phone and stereo receiver connected at the same time and take calls all hands free. sound is really good as well.

Unfortunately I can't count the # of times I have heard adults cuss at kids, kids cuss at adults, and even worse adults cussing about the game with their 4 year old child in the background. SMH.

I don't play enough to need a mic. I just want to be able to enjoy watching something and not hear everything in the house.

I do know I will need a receiver unit to plug into my receiver to pair with the bluetooth headphones. I have had my Sony receiver for over 10 years and it works well.

The turtle beach isn’t Bluetooth for anything except your phone or iPad or whatever. It’s main connection is optical to a base transmitter. That how you can watch tv play games etc, that’s all done wireless. The Bluetooth is a separate connection. The Bose on the other hand would require a Bluetooth adapter but I also believe they can be used with a ca cord.

Beats are simply overpriced junk with the bass turned up high.
I have had good success with some of the wireless bose noise cancelling headphones.

Sony still makes decent stuff

but Bose is hard to beat....their QuietComfort are fantastic.

Bose QC35 if you can go bluetooth, QC25 if you need wired.

I've also got a pair of JBL Everest 700s that I really like for the noise cancelling aspect, but theyr'e not nearly as comfortable as the Bose are. Both sound great.

I use Bowers and Wilkins P7’s cuz I got tired of listening to the wife bitch about TV volume as well as “my music”. Expensive but the sound quality is awesome w/ a 17 hour battery cycle. Works great for listening to music, TV or podcast while processing brass on the RCBS work station? Blue tooth interface or hard wire if desired...

I appreciate the input gents. So Beats are off the table. The Bose QC 35 were very comfortable. Would be nice to find them somewhere for less than $350. If not, it is what it is.

On another note, isn’t wired sound supposed to be better than wireless in equal devices?

I've had the Sony WH1000XM2 for 6 months or so and they are fantastic. Battery life is REALLY good. Sound is excellent and noise cancelling is as good or better than any of the Bose I've used. Bluetooth >> cord for every day life. Who wants to carry their phone everywhere and deal with wires snagging stuff? I'll take the 1% loss in sound quality.

Update: I ordered the Bose QC 25 on Prime Day. Hard to pass up for $125.

It comes with the 1/8" stereo cable. When plugged into my Sony receiver to watch TV, movie, etc. sound sucks.

I get all the environment sound, but voices are next to nothing. I was told I should come out of the back with optical to 1/8" adapter in order to get dolby digital.

I have also read that good quality headsets are a better choice than headsets that have 5.1 or 7.1 surround b/c you can't really get surround in headphones. Any thoughts on this?

I have a pair of Bose and Beats. I use my Bose when I mow. You cannot hear my 54 inch Zero Mower with the Bose. They are great. I use the Beats when it does not matter if the N/C is needed. Get the Bose.
