Like the question says, does anyone make bottom metal that will take a DPMS AR-10 magazine and feed a Rem 700 action?

Just wondering, since the new AR-10 mags from Magpul are out and they're very affordable. Especially compared to the other magazine solutions out there.

Appears that the amount of magazine you need to shove into the receiver is the limiting factor.

I still haven't written off a system that can do it, but I want to finish up another project before I tackle this one.

Sounds like a good premise. What about other semi-auto mags like FAL or M1A? Do you run into the same problem? I have little to no experience in this area, but the thought occurred to me.

People have made M1A mags work, but it's a very custom setup and a lot of work goes into each mag as well to make it reliably feed.

I don't know much about it other than that.

Just buy yourself one of these and run the mags.LOL

OP, you need to consider what the bottom of the bolts of the M1A and AR-10 look like. They are not similar to the round face of most bolt actions. The mags in question are stagger feed and the bolts they are designed for, pass thru them much deeper as they skim out a round.

Yes, I'm aware of that, I was curious if anyone had already made it work. I'm just putting together a few things in my mind about how to do this myself.

Thanks for the picture and the help.

there isn't anything that is readily available but anything is possible
my Savage has been modded to take M1A mags and the bolt needed to be modded to work

Which chassis is that?

Re: bottom metal that accepts DPMS AR10 mags?

I have looked farily hard at this. Magpul even sent me a case of mags to mess with.

What i found was...

1) The mags are wide, the feed ramps and some side material would need to be removed from your action.
2) It will be tricky to get the R700 bolt to pick up a round out of the magazine. The bottom side of the bolt lugs would have to scrape the top of the feed lips of the mag to pick up a round. If mags varied much some would work and some wouldnt.

Doable? YES. A viable product? Im not convinced yet.

How many of you would be willing to hack up a receiver to where it would only work with this system?

How many would spend 200$ or more to have it installed?

What are the advantages of using this system over what is already available?

Is it mag cost you are trying to go after? A 200$ install would buy 3-1/2 mags of your choice. So is it worth it?

Re: bottom metal that accepts DPMS AR10 mags?

Robar used to do a conversion to run M14 / M1A mags and stopped doing it around 10 - 15 years ago , IIRC .Like so , http://www.gunsamerica.com/958295974/Gun..._COnversion.htm . The reciever and mags had to be heavily modified and after it was done there is no returning to stock configuration . I think the cost to do this with the bottom metal and 1 mag was around 500 $ back then . They stopped doing it because of lack of demand and issues getting it to run all the time correctly .

Listen to what Terry Cross said he knows what he is talking about .
