Gunsmithing bottom metal

Re: bottom metal

Seekins SA AI bottom metal is great with the ambi AR15 style mag release. I love mine.

Of my standard Badger M5, M5 with RAD latch and the Seekins, I like the Seekins best, but they all will work.
I've played with the Surgeon and liked it, and look forward to checking out an UGSW down the line.

All the majors will run. I'm not a fan of CDI, seen to many with issues but one guy I shoot with has been happy with his.

And Glen's one of our own too....

Here's a pic of his setup, disregard the amatuer inletting, that was all me!

Curious but what issues?

Re: bottom metal

On the CDI topic!

I own one, wouldn't go that route again and I'd sell it if some one wants it.

One of the issues I have with it is that it does not have a proper "stop" if you will, machined in the mag well ( by the trigger gaurd area, above the thumb lever) to keep the mag from rising too high in the action race way thus causing the bolt to jamb if pressure is applied to the bottom of the mag (Had a lot of play up and down). You have to wedge or glue in a piece of meterial (Aluminum or rubber) to help stop the mag "sooner" and keep it in the proper place. Badger has a machined angle with in the mag well that mates with the small "wedge" shaped lip on the mack of the mags which stops the mag from rising too high and it worked flaulessly with both AI and C-Products mags.

The second issue with the CDI is that it works well with the C-Producst mag because it has shorter feed lips than the AI so when I modified the "stop" to work for the C-Products, the AI mag is a no go with out modification.

Agreed

Re: bottom metal

Sorry for the stupid ass question but is there a difference between the inletting for a badger, seekins, R&D Precision and the CDI? Looking at some pics many look identical.

Re: bottom metal

No issues with CDI on an FN SPR and I cant bag on it in any area. If I HAD to pick one I would shorten the mag release but that's it.
Since I used an FN action I milled clearance into the bottom action to clear the AICS mag which also serves as a stop of sorts.
The metal/ magazine fit is perfect IMHO.

+1 on CDI.
