Boy do I feel dumb...

I went to the gunshop today to pick up my new Rem. 700 SPS-V in .308. The Manager, sales person, and I all verified the serial number on the DROS paperwork, reciept, and rifle all matched. Even the box and owners manual had matching serial numbers and showed the caliber as .308. Just one problem... When I got home and took the rifle out of the box, I found that the rifle was chambered for .223. I realized after the fact that I had neglected to look at the marking on the bbl, or look at the muzzle. By the time I realized the error it was to late to do anything about it because the store was closed already. I'll have to go back tomorrow. Damn!

This brings up a big question... Yes, i'm lame for not catching the error at the store, upon pickup, but what does it say about Remington QC for letting this rifle leave the factory with mismatched serial number/caliber?? Serial numbers are a legal issue, are they not?

I have been buying guns for 30 years and never had a problem like this. Anybody here ever had this happen? I hope I won't have to go thru another 10 day waiting period.

Regards,

Rick

So the barrel says ".308" on the side of it? That would be a first for me. If that's the case, I'd say that would be a pretty easy mistake to make.

Wow that totally sucks. I just got a Ruger 10/22 in stainless that turned out to be blue. Transfer was already done, had to send it back, order another one, and do the paperwork again. I have never heard of a mismarked one like yours though.

The serial number match on the rifle reciever, DROS paper work, reciept, box, and owners manual. all paper work shows caliber as .308. However the rifle bbl is marked .223.

I didn't look at that at the store, because when I inspected the rifle upon pickup, I was supprised to see that the rifle had a wide forend and the X-Mark Pro adjustible trigger. I didn't think the SPS came with those features. The rifle I looked at when I made my purchase didn't have either feature. I inspected a .308 SPS-V rifle at the shop, and thought that was the rifle I was going to get, however when I went to the cashier to pay, the sales associate must have put that rifle back on the shelf, and assigned a new sealed box rifle to me.

Does the .308 SPS-V come with the wide beavertail style forearm and X-Mark Pro trigger?
