I went to the gunshop today to pick up my new Rem. 700 SPS-V in .308. The Manager, sales person, and I all verified the serial number on the DROS paperwork, reciept, and rifle all matched. Even the box and owners manual had matching serial numbers and showed the caliber as .308. Just one problem... When I got home and took the rifle out of the box, I found that the rifle was chambered for .223. I realized after the fact that I had neglected to look at the marking on the bbl, or look at the muzzle. By the time I realized the error it was to late to do anything about it because the store was closed already. I'll have to go back tomorrow. Damn!
This brings up a big question... Yes, i'm lame for not catching the error at the store, upon pickup, but what does it say about Remington QC for letting this rifle leave the factory with mismatched serial number/caliber?? Serial numbers are a legal issue, are they not?
I have been buying guns for 30 years and never had a problem like this. Anybody here ever had this happen? I hope I won't have to go thru another 10 day waiting period.
Regards,
Rick
