I'm ordering an AAC 7.62-SDN-6 as my next can to cover my ARs and possibly a .308 down the road. My precision AR will probably wear it frequently, a 24" Sabre barreled upper in 223. I'm having my smith thread it in a week or so.

Of the AAC choices available, which would you suggest for having the least negative impact on accuracy?

Then, in the appropriate 223 size or even thread it 5/8-24 for a 30cal version?

Or am I simply out of my mind to put a QD suppressor on my precision AR rig and have it risk the decent sub-MOA accuracy I'm getting out of it now?

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

i chose the Combo to attach my 762SD, it did not hinder accuracy as far as I can shoot. But the point of impact was like 7inches low at 100yds. I rezeroed and all has been good

the 762SD is amazing quiet on the 223 (SR15) almost quieter in my ears compared to the M4-2000. So I can just imagine the 762SDN6

The flashhider had a sort of loud ringing everytime I shot it so changed to the Combo as the I didnt want to spend the $150 for Brake especially on a 223

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

I use a an 18T Brake on my HCS MK12 and really like it. I haven't been able to shoot it with a can yet, but without one the brake does its job very well.

Thanks for the input guys. For my SBR, I ordered the top, combo brake/flashhider for the idea that the first brake port takes a good bit of the blast rather than the more pricey can baffle.

Since my can was just ordered and I have literally months of paperwork to clear before I get it, I'll sift the forums for a deal on the brake. It does seem a little overpriced at $150 when the other are sub-$100 and seem to me about the same amount of material and machining required.

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

The erosion worries were only with my 10" sbr. The 24" I'm only concerned about effect on accuracy, and to some extent how silly a flash hider looks on the end of a stainless 24" barrel.

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

I have the blackout one one rifle and brakes on for rifles. With a sbr you want to use the brake to act as a extra blast baffle. This will increase the life of your can. I run the brake on a 12" LMT piston gun with my M4-2000. The brake is awesome on my Remington 700 AAC-SD running the 762sdn-6. With the 24" barrel take your choice and enjoy!

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

I have not used an AAC flash hider for comparison, but I do not notice a tuning fork sound with the Brakeout shooting .300 Blackout subsonic. I will try another Brakeout on a .556 tomorrow and report back. Note, the subsonic .300 Blackout has low recoil as it is but I have myself convinced that it is even lighter with the Brakeout in place.

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

I'm running a Blackout muzzle brake on my 18" AR. It has no noticeable effect on accuracy, and I think it looks pretty good to boot.

I contacted AAC before recently purchasing a 762SD and they recommended using the brake on an SBR for that exact reason.

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

.....but doesn't that just redirect the gas/blast into the side wall of the can instead of the blast baffle that is presumably designed to take the blast???

Any dangers to the side wall?

I was thinking on the break but was a little concerned about the above.

Thanks

Gas pressure decreases as it travels down a column with the same diameter. That's why longer barrels allow lower wear to the suppressor.
Each baffle section has a higher diameter allowing expansion of gas. The AAC brakes have two of these sections for expansion before the gas reaches the suppressor. It acts as a sacrificial material to absorb the earliest (and highest) of these gas pressures.

Re: Brakeout/Brake/Blackout for 223 Precision Rifle?

I just ordered the SDN-6 and my rifles will wear,
16" 308: brake
14.7" 556: Brakeout
8" 6.8 SPC: brake

I'm expecting it to be loud without the suppressor.
