I just opened 2 new bags of Winchester brass for my new 7mm WSM and one of the casings in the bags was a 270 WSM.

Should I run the case through a 30 caliber expander ball and then back through the 7 wsm die to create a false shoulder that way I can still use the casing? Right now I'm just loading up 50 rounds so I can break in the barrel and then work on some loads for it.

I would think it would work fine, I just wanted to see what you guys had to say about it.

Thanks
Brad

270 & 300 WSM are shorter than the 7WSM

That's why I thought I would neck it up to 30 and then back down to 7mm to create the false shoulder to headspace off of. My thinking is that it would be like fireforming an ackley load.

Re: brass question

Well I figured I would go ahead and do it and see if it looked like it would work. I have one of those universal 30 cal neck dies from Hornady. Apparently the opening in the die isn't meant for wide casings as it ate the body on the casing. Oh well, I tried.
