ok i bought some once fired brass and well the order was for once fired winchester brass , what i got today is mixed i called the guy and left a mess

any how some stamped LC 91 LC69 some stamped wcc and even some nato 7.62 x 51 with crimped primers ,, so i ask

what stamp should winchester brass have and do they make brass with other stamps ,, most if not all have a cicrle with a cross in it , like a cross hair in a scope

what say the hide ?

sorry for any miss spelling

Re: brass ?????????????

I'm no brass guru but LC91 and LC69 stands for Lake City brass company and the year it was produced. Wincherster bass should say Winchester 308 win. on the head stamp. The Wcc may stand for Winchester cartridge company, but like I wrote I'm no guru by any means.

Re: brass ?????????????

that is what i thought as well so i filed a dispute with paypal

they will email him and let me know and i am hopeing that he calls me back or responds to my email , was only 20 for 100 brass but still it stated winchester brass , not mix , and he does sell mix , hornady lc , and on and on so hope for a quick fix

thanks

Re: brass ?????????????

I would be cautious about loading previously fired brass from an unreliable source. You might even have machine gun brass in there, which I would throw out. You can measure the headspace to see how far from SAMMI spec it is.
LC69? That's some aged brass...

Re: brass ?????????????

got an email back just a mix up in shipping , he is loacal in houston area and if the brass looks good i may buy more

any how he is going to send me out the winchester brass , and he said i can keep the mix brass so i may pick threw it and keep what is in spec

thanks guys and yeah i will check it out befor loading for sure

Re: brass ?????????????

WCC in indeed Winchester brass from the Olin plant in E. Alton IL. It is how they stamp their 7.62 NATO cases which are going to be thicker and hold less powder than Winchester commercial grade .308 cases. LC, as mentioned is Lake City and also 7.62 NATO and so thicker than commercial .308.

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, it has probably been through an M-60 since 99.9 % of the 7.62 NATO gets used for MG only these days. (I don't necessarily think that's a deal breaker. I've used MG brass before and it just needs some extra care when prepping).

The other stuff may be Austrian surplus. I got 4 ammo cans of this stuff several years ago for my M-14, but it has been some of the best brass I've used (once fire-formed and the primer pockets swaged).

Re: brass ?????????????

my brass dont look like that , ill get a pic up in a min

i got another box from the guy , all winchester but they have crimping dashes around the neck will that be a problem ?
they all need resized and trimmed but that will not remove the crimped area on the neck so is this brass any good or should i strike it all up as a loss ,, could i use it for hunting loads ?

thanks

Re: brass ?????????????

what should i do

Re: brass ?????????????

The Winchester brass is commercial and the crimp marks on the case mouth are normal from fired factory rounds. Won't hurt anything. They should weigh in at 158-163 Grains. It's good brass.

Re: brass ?????????????

LC brass will weigh in at about 20 grains more than the Winchester. You'll hit max pressures a couple of grains less powder than the Winchester brass.

LC will work. If your LC is not match brass, it will have a crimped in primer that you will have to ream the crimp out before re-priming.

Segregate your brass.

Re: brass ?????????????

i would check all of that LC brass for a 1/4in diagonal dent about halfway down the case. this would indicate that it has been shot out of an M240. i have about 400 rounds of it and 90% of them have the dent, none of them want to chamber in my .308.
