brass ?

just a quick question or two on loading diff brass

so far i have been loading new winchester brass , no problem got nice load worked up and i am now trying to load in some once fired brass i bought ,, have win, lc, hornady.

the winchester i load up the same varget gr and it seams to be more full!? so if this is military winchester is it a thicker case than what we buy in the gun shops?

lake city brass i know is thicker and the hornady brass i am guessing is thicker as well?

so if they are all thicker how far back should i adjust my gr ?

from what i have seen its -1gr kinda rule of thumb , that sound correct?

the hornady is similar to the winchester
the LC IS thicker but weight wise bounces around ....and yes you WILL reduce because there is not enough room for the powder unless you are doing Popsicle stick loads.

i may have not asked the ? correctly on the winchester ,, ther is a diff in win brass ? do they make a thicker brass than what you buy in the store ? say a winchester military brass ?

ill bump it back 1 gr and see how they shoot , adjust from there

Always back off your charge and work back up again if your changing one of your components, especially brass.
Err on the side of caution!

Depending on how hot your normal load is (with the regular Winchester brass you use)
Back off 1 full grain.
If your only shooting a mild load to begin with you could get away with only backing off .5grn buts it's always best to play it safe!

You can always check the water capacity of your different cases to give you an idea of the difference in internal volume.

Take a handful of each brass type, size them all as your normal prep (just to even the playing field)
Seat a primer (an old spent primer will do)
Then weigh them so you have the dry weight number,
and fill the cases to the brim with water and carefully weigh them again.
Subtract the dry weight and your left with the water capacity of each case.

thanks for the heads up

i am not shooting hot laods ,, they are in the uper safe range for my components but not hot by any means

i loaded with -1gr to start , need to test them

the water test is a good idea thanks agian for the info

I just weighed WCC and Winchester out of the bag commercial brass the other day, the weights were identical. I'm guessing the case capacities are Near the same. My commercial Winchester and lake city brass loads are the same. My load isn't hot but it's good enough to clean the 300 yrd NRA Target. Ymmv.
