I've had many guns in my life but never a precision rifle. Just bought a new SPS barmint 308 and dropping it into a HS Precision stock and then good glass. My question is what is the best break in proccess for a new barrel? I've read many different options over the yrs, but I figure a precision rifle forum would know more than any.
Any good info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help so far.

My dad has a philosophy of how do you clean a gun.... shot another round through it. Don't worry about break in process just shoot.

Hmm.. I cleaned my before the first shot then shoot the crap out of it until it stop shooting sub MOA. That's my break in process.

love that video. To the original poster, I bought an sps in 7mm and I just ran my bore snake through it twice and started shooting, I tested all of the functions prior and dry fired it.

Billy Jack as you can see, opinion is divided. If you come from a benchrest/fclass background then you are more likely to do a shoot 1 clean 1 shoot 2 clean 1 routine, everybody else just shoots their guns as break in. Me I used to do the benchrest breakin now I just give the new barrel 20 or so patches of JB paste and off she goes.

Yes, and they specifically state that cleaning is NOT a benign process and should only be done as necessary.
