Apologies for bringing up what I'm sure is an old thread... I looked and couldn't find..

My FN SPR A1 in .308 is my favorite rifle. I want to put break on it to help with recoil. I know there are many to choose from and a lot of the cool kids choose surefire. I was wondering what other brands are out there that work great as alternate options. I have plans for suppressing the rifle down the line and I'd like the break to be able to support it.

Thanks.

It's brake but take a look at the brakes from Suppressed Armament Systems, Griffin Armament, Thunder Beast, and AAC all make brakes that can thread over a proprietary muzzle brake and have been used extensively in long range shooting applications. You could also get a brake like the Badger Ordnance FTE, BO Mini-FTE, or RAD Brake that thread on and clamp down onto the muzzle threads with a cross bolt. When you wanted to attached your suppressor all you would do is loosen the nut, screw off the brake, and the suppressor would then thread on directly.

I have AAC and Surefire brakes that are also the mounts for cans. I love my AAC cans, but as a brake the Surefire mounts are better. The biggest difference is in controlling torque. This really comes into play when using a lighter rifle like an AR, especially offhand. The Surefire brake holds the muzzle just dead flat and double taps out to 100yds are a cinch. That's not a matter of cool kids vs uncool kids, it's just performance. On a large rifle off of a bipod there isn't any real torque effect to contend with, at least for me.
