Browning action for long range build?

Re: Browning action for long range build?

you can find smiths, but theyre rare. if you have the desire you can make it work, but another action manufacturer would be easier.

i have an a-bolt 300 win mag and have looked into this vey subject extensively

Re: Browning action for long range build?

Funny you should ask about this, I have a shot out 300 WM A-bolt, strippped it a year and half ago, looking to see what I had to do to make it back into a real shooter. Got sidetracked with all the other stuff to do, not as easy as a 700, and not much aftermarket stuff for it.

I have figured out the trigger though and fixed a few of those since. Not as easy as dropping in a Jewell/Timnet/Huber though.

Re: Browning action for long range build?

Talked to a smith I know some time ago about doing some work to an a-bolt I had. He said the actions were known to crack easily sometimes when you put any torque on them. He could have easily tried it and made money off of me, but told me to go spend money on an action and he would put it together. He would rather me spend my money for parts somewhere else, and spend less having him put it together, than him getting paid to build something he knew wouldn't work out near as nice or tough as a 700 design action
