Well I couldn't help myself. It stopped raining here in town and the wind has died down for the most part. So I headed off to the local BLM range. Well...I get there and it is sprinkling a bit. And shortly after I set my target stand up it starts to really rain.

I found a nice little pine tree and put my shooting mat under...I am mostly out of the rain..mostly. I start shooting at 25 yards. I am pretty close with on paper. I shoot a couple of groups and adjust the scope. I move the target stand to 50 yards....shoot a nice five shot group...did I say it was raining!?!?

Now out to 100 yards....and there is a breeze now...oh yeah...and it was raining. I shoot 2 sighters and was only a bit high at 100 yards. So a few clicks on the elevation knob and I shoot the 5 shot group you see below.

So...I would say its a shooter. All shooting done from the prone with a bi-pod and rear bag. Ammo was Federal 17gr Vmax.

Take care,Stan

Re: Browning T-Bolt .17 HMR range report

Thanks guys.
I really did not know what to expect...I have never shot a .17 HMR before.

So even with the crappy conditions and my first time out with this rifle...I am very pleased with how it shoots.

I am going to try some of the 20gr ammo for it and see what the difference between the 17gr ammo is.

Can't wait to go shoot some ground ratz.

Take care,Stan

Re: Browning T-Bolt .17 HMR range report

I just got a Savage in 17HMR and am highly impressed with the round. With a 100 yd zero it only has 8 inches of drop at 200 yards compared to a 22LR which drops 42 inches. Keeping in mind 200 yds is a ways for a 17 grain round. It shoots incredibly flat.

Mines similar to this one with a dark red and black combo.

The 17HMR is a fun round.

BgBmBoo what is the exact model #? I have a Savage that shoots great but the magazines and mag release are sooooo cheap they bug the heck out of me. I was thinking I might like this better and want to find one to look at in person. How has it shot now for you with these extra months? Still very happy? PG

Re: Browning T-Bolt .17 HMR range report

The model you see above is a limited production version that has been sold out for some time. Cabelas had the last of them.

Browning has made a stainless varmint barreled T-Bolt twice - both were limited production runs and are not currently available. I hope Browning decides to offer a stainless varmint T-bolt as a regular production model in the future.

Re: Browning T-Bolt .17 HMR range report

I had one of the old original 22rf's made in Belgium. That was a shooting SOB. CCI green tag and Eley 10X shot under 1/2 MOA @ 50 yards. I killed a ton of squirrels with that thing before replacing it with an Anschutz 1710. The Annie doesn't shoot much better, but the trigger is nicer.

Yup that rifle is a shooter. A dang good looking one too. Welcome to the "I love HMR" club. You probably will not like the 20 gr CCI near as well. In my CZ Varmint the groups open up about double with the 20's. Of course that means the group is still moa with the CZ. It's just not 1/2 moa as with the 17gr.
