Hey Guys looking for some new glass for my 17hmr. Anyone have any feedback on the BSA sweet 17 scopes. They have a few models
Not sure what one to look at. Or any other scopes comparable in price. Such as redfield revolution or Nikon prostaff. Any help is appreciated.

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

If you're looking at scopes in that price range, I'd stay far away from that BSA scope and consider the Redfield Revolution scope, also you should consider the Swift Premier line of scopes, I hear great things about Swift.

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

My experiences with inexpensive scopes is you will eventually have a problem. I have had the best luck with Nikon and Luepold for my cheap scopes. I've have one of each that have been in use for over 5 years. I've had trouble with BSA (reticle came loose after 2 months), Millet (wouldn't hold zero ever), and Bushnell (lense fogged inside after a few years). Keep in mind I'm talking about inexpensive models under $200.

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

I have a millett and have only shot it In a indoor gun range with a 35yd Max. I could not even see the crosshairs. Idk if that's because of the conditions I have. It got to take it outside yet. But I honestly don't plan on shooting birds or squirrels over 150 yards so I'm not looking for anything to expensive for a 17hmr

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

I have one on my .17 hmr. Like it has been said it is a cheap scope. For around the farm, squirrel, killin, plinking it is a fine scope. I dont have a lot of $ invested so when it gives up I dont care.
FWIW I have sent it back once and it was replaced with out issue.

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

You get what you pay for. Spend another $50 and but a low budget Leupold (riflemen) on eBay. I'm always buy/sell and trading to upgrade my collection. There are others willing to let go of a scope to better afford their upgrade.

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

I have a BSA Sweet 17 on my Marlin .17. Like above, its a great scope for squirrel genocide and plinkin'. I havent had any issues with it. Just know that once you get it, the drop compensator in the scope wont be accurate for you. Its setup for a certain grain round, and since its purchase i've found a better and more accurate round than what the scope's drop compensator is for.

find a cheap Leupold scope, some of their tactical scopes are great for playing with while out target shooting. overall quality = Superb (imo)

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

I have the Sweet 17 on my custom 10/22 tac driver and I have to say I am not impressed what-so-ever. By brother built a 10-22 just like mine but used a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 and that little scope has awesome glass. I would do what others have said and stay clear away from BSA. Go with Nikon or Leupold for rimfires.

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

Seen lots of differant models on the .17s. we shoot bricks of ammo in the spring at rabbits and pdogs. been around a couple of the bsa and not impressed at all. One buddy has a nikon buckmaster 3x9 on his, its nice but i hate the retical, them big circles just cover up what i guy is trying to see. One friend has a couple of Burris fullfield II 3x9 on his and his wifes savages and they have good glass and clean look to them. I run just a leupold 3x9 vxII on mine and dont see how u can get better than that for the .17. just a little kentucky windage and elevation and ur money! The ziess 3x9 for about 400 bucks would be awsome as well, great glass for the price.

Re: BSA SWEET 17 scope

I just picked up a Nikon Prostaff 3x9-40 Rimfire with BDC reticle for my Mark II. I like it alot for $149. I wouldn't even consider the BSA. The Redfield 3x9-50 seemed like a great value too for the same price, but the BDC reticle sold me. I also checked out some of the 40/44 Weavers and the reticles were thick and glass not nearly as clear.
