delawhere?
i recently just picked up a Remington 700 in .308, and i am kinda strapped for cash. I was wondering what scope would give me the most "bang for the buck". i am trying to keep the whole build under $1000. could anyone give me any good scopes i should try out? Also, any upgrades that would be beneficial to have.
Thanks,
vince

Re: Budget .308

I am going to be going with a SS for my first scope. I am new to the long range shooting myself so I am doing what I can with the funds I do have to put my rifle together. I have heard a lot of good things about the SS scopes and I did have a chance to paly with one and liked how it was.

Re: Budget .308

Yeah I am just getting into the long range shooting myself. I am putting my rifle together while I am here in Iraq. I just picked up a Remington 700 SPS/Varmint Heavy barreled action. I figured I would go with a SS to start with.

Later when money gets better and after I get some time with the SS and learn more about long range shooting and more about optics and stuff I will upgrade ths scope to something else. That is if I dont decide to just keep using a SS as I know I will more than likely not be shooting any compatitions or anything like that just punching paper.

I do have a 700 in .270 that I use for hunting and might be using the .308 as well after I play with it when I get home. I might even slap a SS on the .270 just for fun.

Re: Budget .308

I got the SWFA ss-tac rings on my sps tactical and ss scope. The rings are really nice and i suggest geting the low rings.

Re: Budget .308

Call Chris at SWFA and go with the entire package for the SWFA SS. It is the least expensive, most durable set up for the money. The entire package is well worth it because you get a mil dot scope, all teh rings, sun shades, anti reflection device(ARD) AND the Mil Dot Master which helps you to do your WERM formula for ranging.
For the money you truly cannot beat this package:

$99.95

http://swfa.com/IOR-Mounting-Kit-for-Remington-700-P41763.aspx
$158.95

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42-Tactical-Riflescope-P500.aspx
$399.95

The above may take you a little over budget, but the entire system will give you a superb advantage while you learn the ropes. You can save a little money by going with the lesser cost non side focus scope, but I'll tell ya, the side focus is the cat's ass in comparison.
As I said, call and speak with Chris and see what he will offer you for an all SWFA SS package if he has one. So you eat a little raman to get it. Once you start shooting it you will be very happy
