Hey guys. I'm looking for a bolt action centerfire that's accurate out to about 500 yards with a price tag of about $300. Anybody have any ideas? I've been looking at the Remington 770 in .308 but I have no idea how it shoots.

Big +1 for the Howa 1500's, they have a one piece bolt, and usually are more accurate than the person shooting. The only downside is, there are not too many smiths who will work on them, or at least there weren't a few years ago, that may have changed.

Get the stevens. Mine in my sig started from humble beginings. My brother is taken his rig with him and he and I are going to Rayner's this weekend. His 7mm-08 stevens with the stock 3-9x40 bushnell, and some mods I did to his stock is putting 1/3-1/5" groups at 100. If you get ahold of a stevens PM me and I'll tell you how to turn it into a shooter for less than $30.00 in additional parts and a little elbow grease.

Good luck,
Merritt
