Hey, I just recently built an 18" 6.8 spc and want to get a scope for a little deer/hog hunting and target shooting. Im on a budget at the moment dont want to go above $250, would like to stay under if possible. Here is what ive been looking at so far. Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 , nikon primos 3-9x40, Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40, Millet buck gold 4-16x56, or a Vortex diamondback 3-9x40. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Also some reccomendation on a decent set of rings would be nice. Thanks

Re: budget optic help

Vortex has great glass and service.... I haven't had any experience with any of the scopes you mention, but just based of of glass and service of other scopes from the brands you mentioned, I would go Vortex.

Hope this helps-

Re: budget optic help

My recommendation is to buy used. You can often get a better scope at reasonable prices - $250 might be pushing it a bit, but be patient, know your values, and hit every classifieds section on the net. You can narrow down which sites "deal in" the type of optic you are looking for and once you've an idea on prices, hit those sites like a phone on speed dial. Eventually, you'll get lucky.
I bought two Leupold tactical Vari X III 3.5x10s and a VXIII 2.5x8 in one week for $300 each. Yeah, they're old technology, but are still damn good scopes. You just need to be johnny-on-the-spot.....

Re: budget optic help

Go with a Sightron II 3-9x42 for $212.00 great for hunting and target shooting at long distance with 95 moa of adjustment. Great glass and lifetime replacement warranty. For $12.00 more of your stated limit you can get one with a holdover reticle for hunting at long distance also with a 95moa of adjustment.

Re: budget optic help

I have the Bushnell 3200 3-9x40 on a 45-70 that is considered a primitive weapon in Mississippi. For hunting, the rainguard is very nice. I would NOT recommend the firefly illumination feature as the reticle is HUGE in the sight picture.

I have hit both deer and hogs very successfully with the setup despite the weapon that it is on.

For the price, it is a great hunting scope.

Re: budget optic help

Out of these three which would you go with? Bushnell Elite 3200 Rifle 3-9x 40mm DOA 600 Reticle $279, Elite 3200 3-9x50 with multix reticle $259, or a 4200 3-9x40 with mulitx reticle $259.
