I am building a .338 Lapua and I have some questions on what I should use. I am using a Surgeon 1581 XL Repeater, and a broughton 5c barrel but I am not sure if I should go with a 9.3 or 10 inch twist rate. I not sure whether I should shoot 250 gainers or 300, I planned on shooting 300gr. Sierra or Berger VLD bullets, because I plan to shoot out past 1000 yards. Also I am not sure on how long I should make the barrel. I was planning on making it 28 inches, but I am not sure, I was wondering if anyone has some good advice on what to do.

Re: Building a .338 Lapua mag

I think 28" would be ok. Just depends on how long you can live with. I've had long bbled rifles and they can get a bit unwieldy in the field. I would prob do 26" if it were me. Would also do the 9.3 twist. you will still be able to shoot the 250s in it but it will work better for the Berger. Sierra will work fine in the 10"

9.3 or 9.5 twist will work fine.
Go with the 300 grain SMK's if you plan on shooting wayy out there.
the 300 bergers are usually too long to use in a detachable mag and still touch the lands

barrel length should be between 26"-30"
