A simple search of "6.5 Grendel" will lead to a lot of informative (and some not so informative) threads.
See someone who's posting knowledge and PM 'em.

Re: building a 6.5 Grendel

Yes, I have advice. Spend your money on the barrel, don't worry about the other components as long as they are mil spec. Free float the barrel. Grendel uses a different bolt than 556mm AR and different mags as well. Buy the necessary gunsmith tools (armorer's wrench, action block, vice if needed you don't have one, handguard wrench if needed). Use any money saved to buy good optic and better ammo. Shoot and enjoy

Satern or Sabre Defense 6.5 Grendel Barrels available @ MidwayUSA
Sabre Defense 6.5 Grendel barrels also available @ Rainierarms.

go with a 20"-24" bbl.

I hope you plan on reloading for it, or unless you want to wait and pay too much for factory AA ammo.

I built a 18" 6.5 Grendel AR-platform AR and love it, very accurate with the 120gr. bullets.

Re: building a 6.5 Grendel

You can use a 264LBC or 6.5CSS chambered barrel as well with "6.5 Grendel" ammo (basically the the same round and therefore ammo for any of these can be used in any of the barrels). Lothar Walther is building my new barrel (6.5CSS) but there are several good options out there.

Palmetto State Armory (site advertisor/maybe a sponsor?) has 123gr. Amax Grendel ammo for less than a buck a pop and also has great customer service in my experience.

Also, this guy (Scott) who is a regular contributor has quite a reputation for quality Grendel builds.

Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Out of curiosity, why 6.5 Grendel? I've been comparing and contrasting 6.8spc versus 6.5 Grendel for some time, and it just seems like the more I learn the more I can't decide which I want.

You can also get a Satern or Alexander Arms barrel from Alexander Arms.

For me it's the superior range (vastly superior) and the fact that thought the Grendel gives up some to the 6.8 inside of 300 yards (in terms of energy), it's minimal and likely not a factor in putting down game.

The first time I shot my Grendel, I zeroed at 100 yards, then shot at both 600 and 700 yards, banging steel in a 6-8 mph crosswind. It will get out to 1000 and is still supersonic at 1200 or more yards because of the great, high BC bullets.

Re: building a 6.5 Grendel

Sabre Defense matching barrel and bolt worked very well for me! As stated alreay, buy the necessary tools to make a good built and plan on reloading as it will most likely save you money. If you buy factory ammo, plan on paying at least $1 per round. Also note that so far I have had no problem using 223 mags with the Grendel ammo, as far as feed and function. The only issue so far is the 1st round if the bolt is not locked back. When I cycled the bolt, it popped the 1st round in the mag out and just left it there on top of the mag. Since then I've just locked the bolt back and inserted a new mag. Hit the BAD lever and I'm back in action, which isn't a problem anyhow as the bolt is locked back on an empty mag anyways. Just something I tried, to see what happened. I have Grendel mags as well, so don't beat up on me for that.
