iam gonna pull the trigger and build it, I am starting with a cmmg .308 lower and I am stuck between either the 24 inch or 26 inch Rock river arms upper... is the accuracy really that much different? what are your thoughts? and does anyone know a decently priced muzzle brake?
thanks for all the help!!

Just remember the length doesn't make it more accurate, just as stated in the previous post; It gains velocity. It adds weight to do this which may or not be bad for you. You can have a 18 inch quality barrel beat out a lesser made 26 inch barrel.

I'm not that up on brakes, only use flash/compensator combos myself(which work questionably anyways)

Exactly.. You will only loose like 20fps per inch of barrel you take off.. Guys are ringing steel at 1000+yds with 20" barrels and at 1000yds with 16" barrels.

Will this be a bench gun only? Will you be carrying it or using in competition? This will determine how you should setup. If you are going .308cal I think 20" would be more than enough. I'd try to setup a package that is balanced and not overly heavy. If you are adding a brake, recoil shouldn't be a factor and extra weight not needed.

Check out the Primary Weapons FSC30.. I've seen a few good reviews. I've got the 556 on my AR15 and like it. Lots of good optons out there.

As Hawk mentioned a 20" barrel is plently long enough for most applications. I have a 24" DPMS LR-308 and it is HEAVY. As for brakes I would look into the Benny Cooley (JP Enterprises), Miculek Comp, Surefire, or if you want some radical recoil reduction look at JP's Tank brake.

The primary arms flash hider is pretty nice. I have one on my dpms and it performs well. It mixes flash surpession and noise reduction. For me it does both well. Flash is minimal(about the same as a2 birdcage) and felt recoil was reduced. I have heard the battlecomp works better but is substantially more expensive

well id love to find out if I could use it deer hunting... lol. But i appreciate all your opinions, I was told that 20 inches was the shortest I would want to go for a 1000 yard gun. I would love to go to 18 inch cause I can get it in fluted and i think it looks better!!

the gun will be a bench/competition gun. really looking forward to getting into that side of the sport!

Honestly, you're better off with a bolt gun for most competitions. If you really want an AR308 for that then build a bench rifle, 20-22" barrel from a good maker, etc etc. Fulton offers a fairly decent 22" heavy stainless 1:12 twist upper for 1049$.

Also, any barrel can be fluted, just takes money.
