Building a middy. . . . Which BCM barrel?

I am ordering a mid length 16" or 14.5" upper from BCM. Are their BFH barrels significantly better than their standard barrels? They seem to be about a third more money bought separately.

Also, any reason not to use the Yankee Hill 12" hand guard on a build like this?
Thanks

Great link. It helped changed my mind. Here's what I am thinking about now:

Standard BCM 16" "middy" with Troy standard railed forearm

I'll use Troy flips sights (since I've had success on other builds) with their HK-style FS. This will go on my Yankee Hill carbine lower that's an orphan at the moment.

This would be my first mid-length rifle.

Ive got a 16in BCM middy gov profile...If I could do it again I would get a 14.5middy Lightweight...no need for the extra weight on the end of the barrel

Rail wise I have a DD OmegaX on mine with the FSB, while the YHM rails are good value and solid look at the Troy extreme rails, they are lighter and have a tiny profile compared to the YHM

What you're wanting to do with it should decide which upper you're looking for.
The BFH is all I want because I shoot high round count events often & put more than a little range time on my drills etc. The extended life of a hammer forged barrel is best for me.
I have a buddy who likes to print little groups. He prefers the SS version & says that they shoot as well as any off the shelf match barrel. (what ever that means)
I'm not running ultra marathons with it so the barrel profile means little to me (other than the dread HEAVY profile).
Honestly, I'm sure that since you're asking this question that you'll be pretty happy with which ever barrel model you order.
Too many people over think too many things.

As for the rail, skip YHM. They make some decent items but a spec built rail isn't one of them.

Nice barrel, but probably too heavy for this one. I've got that ground covered with other builds.

I should have said that I am trying to keep the weight down a bit on this one. The lightweight choices i would look at first are out of stock, though any barrel that weighs in like a government profile barrel would be lighter than anything I currently have.

Re: Building a middy. . . . Which BCM barrel?

Well I took this advice, sort of. But, I switched gears away from the middy, deciding to go with a 14.5 Noveske basic carbine with a pinned Vortex.

I ordered the MI 2-piece free float, carbine length. It is nice to have any free-float option with a pinned and welded setup.

It will already be lighter than my RRA with it's heavy, government profile barrel. And losing an inch and a half will drop the weight a tiny bit more.

Thanks. It feels right for what I want this one for.
