Building my first 700 - barrel threading options?

So I finally picked up my first 308 bolt-action (Rem 700 SPS Varmint) and am looking to get it ready for spring. The two big things I want to get done are a chassis system with DBM (leaning to the AICS right now but McRees and XLR are still in the running).

The second is to get the barrel threaded for the Templar suppressor I picked up in the group buy. Question is which route to go - can I send the entire action/barrel out and have it separated, threaded, and reassembled or - as I have read in a few spots online - find someone that can thread it w/o taking the barrel off? I would guess the varmint barrel would need to be taken down before threading which may mean not practical for that method but I am wondering is there a huge price difference in the services, potential risks, etc.... also any good guys to reach out to for said service would be very much appreciated.

Threading with the barrel in place is a piece of cake for those with the right equipment (read: a decent-sized lathe). I did this same job in my home shop in less than two hours (including teardown/reassembly), and a pro can likely do it in significantly less time. And even if barrel removal was deemed necessary, it'd add a trivial amount of effort to the task (maybe an extra 15 minutes or so, most of which I'd probably spend looking around the shop for the barrel vise inserts).

Either way, there are a number of 'smiths on the Hide that will take care of you.

+1 on threading the barrel with the action on. Why mess with it if you don't have to. On my 13x40 lathe I can thread a barrel down to 22" in length with the action attached. Good luck with your project.
