Please, do NOT tell me to use the search function, I did. Either my search abilities are less than yours, or there's nothing about this particular subject.

I plan on making my own stock, along the lines of the Mcree chassis system. It's going to have a V-block type seat, so it won't be bedded with epoxy. Now yes, as you probably can tell, I don't know about this stuff. I shoot the darn things, not usually work on them haha I'm thinking about machining slightly elongated holes for the action screws. That way I can slide the action backwards until the recoil lug makes full contact with...whatever the area is called it makes contact with ha. Therefore taking the force of the recoil.
At least, since it's called a "recoil lug", I assumed it should do that job. The screws would have very little horizontal work to do, they would just be pulling the action down onto the stock. I have access to the machines, but my skills aren't the best. I'd hate to have the holes for the action screws off JUST a bit and end up with them taking the force of the recoil, with the lug not doing anything.

Am I thinking along the right lines, or no?

Re: Building own stock question

I myself have built a couple of alum chassis systems, that being said i wouldn't elongate the holes myself. I would bust out the measuring sticks if i were you and make them very precise. Trust me you will be happier in the long run. I built one for my rimfire for my g/f. Although only a rim fire i had way more satisfaction in knowing that it was done correctly and very precise.

Re: Building own stock question

I built one like a mcree, turned out fine i thought.
I left the front\recoil lug area a little bit long drilled all my holes mounted action and milled the face down until it was square and the right length. no elongated holes no movement. Easy and exact fit.
