Trying to build up a fixed AR 15 stock.. I have a 20 MOA riser bock which adds about 1/2" to the scope height. I am using moleskin/pipe wrap to build up the stock. . My problem is that the way I have the scope set up, whatever I build up interferes with the charging handle. If I build up the stock so that the charging clears, my head is too far back on the stock. I can set the scope up for proper eye relief, but with my head that far back it is just not comfortable (neck too upright). If I get rid of the riser, I probably will not have to build the stock up., but all my scopes are set up for a 20 MOA riser. I do not intend on shooting my AR past 600 and woudl not really need a 20 MAO base. Just wondering if/how to build up my stock for a proper check weld.

I still need a riser (or higher rings) or the scope will not clear the handgaurd. Scope is not huge but big enough - it is a Vortex PST 6-24x50.
My rings are too low & the bell will not clear. I do not want to change rings because I move this scope around to my .308 & 300WM rifle. Besides, tall rings vs. short ring & riser will leave me with the same need of having to build up my stock for a good cheek weld.
Get a magpul prs stock? The adjustable cheek piece should get your high enough, and the charging handle stops short of the cheek piece.
GH41, He could also use the adjustability of a prs stock to increase length of pull to fix the relationship between his cheek/shoulder so his head was in a better position. Sorry I didn't spell it out, haha. But yeah...he needs to just ditch the rings and get a proper one piece mount that was designed for an AR to begin with.
I just noticed that adjustable stocks (PRS, XLR, Luth, etc.) have adjustable & longer length of pulls & will help put my head in a better position. One other thing I thought about was making my own catilevered riser - whittled of wood or UHMW polyethelene. Wrap this riser t in moleskin & screw it to the stock. My stock is a fixed A2 & I don't mind drilling & tapping a couple of holes on it.
Again, ditching the rings and getting a "proper one piece mount" will not do anything for me - the scope bell will not clear the front handgaurd. Low rings & riser or high rings will both leave me in need of building up my cheek rest.
Right, as long as you're trying to swap with a bolt gun an AR mount won't work. But don't they make risers for AR 15 that cantilever out over the handguard that do effectively the same thing as a one piece mount?

Something like that would put the scope further forward over the handguard the same way a one piece mount does. This may be exactly what you've got now though. I think you're getting a lot of different responses because it's hard for us to picture what you're currently using and why it won't work.
Another thing I thought of was keeping what you have as far as rings and riser and adding a kydex saddle cheek piece to your current stock. You might be able to cut a notch out of one of those for your charging handle to go under.

Ditching the rings and riser and getting a proper mount will allow you to do exactly what you need to do on the AR. Mounts like rings are available in many heights. ADM alone makes five heights between 1.020 and 1.840. You use of the terms high and low mean nothing without dimensions. Your problem is trying to make one scope/mount package work on three different rifles.
