Bullet Comparing and Sorting

My current process of comparing and sorting bullets is using two Hornady bullet comparators, one on each blade of the caliper, however in my tinkering I found out there is a .002 difference in the two comparators. I found this out by putting the bullet in one way, then flipping it over and measuring it the other way and always getting the same .002 difference. So I've now learned to keep consistancy with that, (which I assumed in the first place) but that just validated it for me. Now I have my comparators marked so I know which one is which. So my question is, is my assumption right that I'm not as concerned with the actual number I'm getting as a size as I am with the fact that I sorting the bullets into the same size group for shooting together at one time. (if that makes any sense). In record keeping is anyone actually keeping track of the number in the bullet comparing process for referring to later on future reloads to use the same size? or are you just forgetting it as long as all the bullets in a particular batch are the same. (Hope that all makes some sense, in what I'm trying to say).

C.D. </div></div> I dont concern myself with the actual number either. I just buy a ton of bullets and sort them into piles. I number the piles arbitrarily, and then shoot them in that order.

and if your not using an ogive tool to sort your bullets , then i imagine your seating depths are probably all over the place. The seater seats by the ogive , if your ogives are different , then your COALS ( ogive to base) will be different. That's why they make the micro adjusters. If your not sorting ogives into piles , i imagine you spend quite a bit of time fucking with the micro adjuster

Dude you need to chill the fuck out. I guess I am one lucky son-ofa-bitch to get such fantastic performance from my loads. I don't shoot BR anymore and I don't shoot FClass and even if I did it wouldn't matter. I guess if what you are spouting about is so importatnt, I could have set records, if I had only sorted my bullets.
I know how it works and what it does chief.

Re: Bullet Comparing and Sorting

I do agree with Mallard and believe you have to be doing some sorting and grouping like sized bullets, I've found the boxes of Sierra 155 MK Palma bulllets I've done to have a large window of difference, but also found a box of 100 Berger 185 VLD's to be almost right on throughout the box and within .001 throughout. I was taught early in my reloading learning about what I now call "Voodoo", if you believe it works for you then do it, even if alot say it's useless waste of time, (ie weighing cases) (That being said recently I've been weighing cases). But I do believe there is somethings you can't get away from if looking for accurate consistency in ones shooting, and I think sorting bullets falls into that catagory.

My problem now is as I said in my initial post I've got two comparators .002 off from each other, and now have to figure out how I want to go about measuring that loaded cartridge ogive length. Suppose it just comes down to deciding which of the two comparators I want to use and always use the same one.
