I did a bone head move and threw some .338lm rounds 10grs too heavy which is well over max. I tried to use my RCBS kinetic puller but the rounds wouldn't fit. What puller do I need to get to get these damn things pulled apart? The less expensive the better.

If the cam lock had been available when I bought mine, that is probably what I would have gone with. I wonder if the collets will interchange?

Re: bullet puller for larger calibers(.338lm)

We'll know before long. I'll be ordering the Hornady setup next week. I made that decision after posting the above statement.

The RCBS unit works really well. But I have a habit of over torquing and leaving marks on the bullets.

(If snug is good, tight is better, and really tight is best. Not always true.)

Try flipping the jaws over in the RCBS Kenitic puller I use it that way and it pulls 50 beowulf bullets.I bought some supplys online which included 25 handloads that I pulled down and reloaded my self.

Every hit one hard enough that it splinters / shatters...? At some point there is a limit to what you can do with plastic.

Vic,

Honestly I don't think you need to hit them all that hard,...Unfortunately I've pulled hundreds of bullets and still have the same hammer now for 25yrs.

But I understand what your saying

I dont use the 338 Lup, but I do use the 416 Rigby, I've pulled 416 bullets with the RCBS Collet Puller. If I remember right they are basicly the same case.

I was TRYING to take some WW2 mil surplus rounds apart. Evidently the asphalt base they seal them with was set like glue. I broke 2 of the plastic tools before I ordered the collet for the RCBS puller. I also learned from a friend long gone now, that if you put them in a press with a seating die with the plug / cup run down and break the seal, they come apart a lot easier. But by then I had the 30 cal collet and just did them that way. A friends dad gave him 500 rounds of 30-06 in EnBlock clips. He said he would half the brass with me and I could have all the bullets and powder for taking them apart. So what does a 24 year old kid do? I did all the work and gave him what he wanted of the remains.

Re: bullet puller for larger calibers(.338lm)

Just drill out the RCBS large Kenitic puller with a 19/32" bit, 1-1/2" deep, turn the drill by hand only as it will grab the plastic. I used vice grips on the drill shank. Get the large collet from RCBS unless yours came with both.

You will have to remove the top and insert the .338 LM into the collet, drop into hammer then screw on the top. The screw on top will not allow the collet to open enough to just drop in the round.

Works fine for me, wish they would make one large enough for the .408 CT.

Thanks bud,
I just did this to mine, I used a slightly larger than 1/2" reamer first, then finished it up with the drill bit, I went down just a tad further than 1.5" and can now do the .338 Norma as well since its a straight wall.

As always its right there in front of you but sometimes you just don't think about it...now if I could only find that large collet!!!

+1 on this

here is the scoop on mind had to pull some LM's due to a lacking in trimming the 338 lm dose not fit in the forester die so out went the dremmel and cut about a 1/8 in ring off the bottom. not it pulls anything i want it to...

Re: bullet puller for larger calibers(.338lm)

I use the RCBS puller for mine from 243 to 50 BMG. Don't have any markings on the projos after pulled.
