Bullet question

Hi,
I'm new here and recently purchased a Rem. 5R Milspec rifle. I was wondering if anyone has used the Rem. 180 gr. Bronze point bullets and what kind of group sizes might be expected? Only reason I ask about these bullets is that I can purchase about 600 of them cheaply. Was planning to mostly shoot at 500 yds.
Thanks for any help or advice.
Greg

Re: Bullet question

Buy a box and take it to the range, that way you get the practice and the test results first hand.

That's what I would do... I am new to this site so, I am just giving you my opinion and definately not advising from experiance!

Re: Bullet question

Are you hunting, competition or what? Bronze points are rare and I would hold on to them for hunting. They are not good enough for target work.
155 Palma ,168,175 Sierra Matchkings would be my choice for target work.
With way things are now, get them and sit on them while you can.

Re: Bullet question

My route would be:

If you buy all 600 of them, shoot 50-75 or so to work out a good solid hunting load, and get good dope results for it out to 500y

Put them back on the shelf and load some for hunting each year, you'll have a lifetime supply of them.

As mentioned above, the common bullets used for target work with great results are

Hornady Amax, Sierra Match King, Nosler Custom Comp, Bergers. Out of all of these, the Hornady Amax is the least expensive, it shoots very very well, and they work nicely on warm blooded targets too. I shoot a lot of them.
