bullets from wideners

Re: bullets from wideners

I've read plenty before that if you expect "accuracy" they suck. I'd spend my money elsewhere. Noslers are usually the cheapest for a match grade bullet.

Heck I'd go with just about any cheapo hunting bullet before what I'd read from others about those bullets from Wideners for plinking.

Re: bullets from wideners

I had a friend call them day before yesterday and axe them. The 175 FMJBT are made by Prvi Partisan. He is going to take a chance and get 2000 of them.
I can't speak for their bullets but I have about 800 pieces of their brass and it is nice.

Re: bullets from wideners

It is one of those things where you get what you pay for. I bought 500 of the 175's and they are made by Prvi. With some load development I was able to get them to shoot right at one MOA.

For cheap plinking they are decent.

Re: bullets from wideners

I use Prvi to zero my rifles as in get them on the paper and close to the center and then use my normal AMAX bullets. I also use Prvi for my plinking ammo. Cheap and it works OK.

Re: bullets from wideners

Buddy of mine bought some and said the weights vary a lot and all weighed more than advertised. He weighed them out in groups and played with his load some and got close to 1moa. Lot of work just to shoot some cheap bullets tho. Like everyone else said work good as a plinking round.

Re: bullets from wideners

I have used a lot of Widener's supplies in the past. I have a friend that used to live within a couple of miles of their store. The thing to remember about buying surplus or "bulk" projectiles is that they are probably made to some country's military specifications. For US made stuff normal "ball" ammo is 1 1/2 MOA. Most bulk or surplus bullets fall into this category. If it doesn't say "Match" it isn't. Unless it says Berger. ALL their bullets are better than most others. Uniformity is the key.

If you want to use the surplus bullets for match purposes, you need to seperate them by weight and length from base to ogive.

Good luck.

Man, that stuff is JUNK. I wasted my money on 1000 of them a while back and they're still under my bench. If you start weighing them, you'll find that they can weigh as much as 1.7gr different from bullet to bullet. I weighed them all ans sorted them into like 5 piles and put them under the loading bench. ( where they will stay and probably never get shot )
