Rifle Scopes Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

I just sold my Burris Black Diamond so I could fund a scope upgrade. How does the glass compare on these two? Will it be a noticable downgrade if I opt for the Viper PST? My worries are mounting after hearing some of the reviews.

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

I would say proceed with extreme caution and only buy if you can put your hands on one and inspect it first. This PST thing looks like it may go south in a hurry. $800 scope and a handful of returns in the first shipment just counting the ones sold to hide menbers...

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

Thankyou for posting but you didn't answer my question. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these two scopes. The reviews thus far have been somewhat disappointing but I haven't given up hope.

If anyone can compare the Burris Black Diamond to the glass on a regular viper that would be appreciated also.

Thanks

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

Remember that a very very small sample of the PSTs are actually in the marketplace right now. Remember also that expectations are REALLY high. We are very early in the hype cycle with these still.

Wait a month or two, then look at where the PSTs are at. We have only seen the people who appear to have an issue with the scope come forward, none of the positive experiences are really represented yet.

If you cant wait that long, go with the Burris Black Diamond.

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

I own a Burris BD and recently spent a half hour behind a 4 X 16 PST. Didn't actually set them side by side. The Burris might, repeat might be ever so slightly clearer, and this is such a subjective call. The other qualities of the PST absolutely overshadow any perceived clarity on the Black Diamond. If you get the PST and still lust for the Burris, PM me and we'll do big business.

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

My Burris BD 6x24 had 2 trips to Burris for warranty, "We'll have it back to you in about a month", in the 5 months I had it. Knobs fell off in my hand.
The Vortex Crossfire on the CZ452 has much better clarity than the BD @ one seventh the cost.

I will answer back when I receive my PST. I have never owned a black diamond but have had several Signatures over the years. Remember the PST's are so new I doubt few will know as they are either in the mail (like mine) or just coming out of the box.

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

I have a Black Diamond 6x24x50 on my 300 Wby, very nice optic. I have 3 Vortex Vipers, 1 in 6.5x20x44 and 2 in 6.5x20x50. Glass quality is equal with a slight edge to the BD when shooting towards the sun. Both optics are excellent in low light and repeatability. I did have some frustration with Burris on another one of their optics, based on that unfortunate case, I will not opt for their products in the future. But that is me. Vortex, with their stated warranty, conversations I have had with their management and reps and my experience so far using the product gets my nod.
Hope this helps some.

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

Hey guys thanks for all the replies. I know that I will recieve some flak for this question, but here it goes anyway.

I am eligible for the 40% off Federal LEO discount from Leupold
Should I get the Mil/Mil FFP MK4 or hold out for the PST? How would these two compare? Like glass and turrets ect. I know that the MK4 does not have an illum. Retical but that is not a big deal to me. Your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Strange...
almost seems like there is an agenda of some sort.

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

Reading about the Vortex customer service has made me a believer. I read the thread with JonA's review. Though initially discouraged about the problems with his scope, seeing how vortex is going about to fix them is simply amazing! They may get my business simply due to that fact alone. There are troubles with the PST's, but Vortex is going above and beyond to fix them. I'm impressed!

Re: Burris Black diamond vs. Viper PST Glass????

I currently have a 4-16 (30mm tube) Burris black Diamond and a 3.5-10 (1 inch tube)Leupold VX-3. Ive looked through both rifles while shooting and I think my Leupold has better glass. I don't know if the helps you make your decision but just throwing it out there.
