Burris XRT III pricing

I'm just starting to look for a new scope, seems the XTR III is a decent scope. I see it for $1000 at EuroOptics. Do you guys know if this is a sale price or the usual street price on these (3.3-18X). If its a sale price, I might buy sooner rather than later. If it is usually this price, I will likely wait a few months.

They used to sell for 750-800, it’s only lately that they increased. For 1k I’d call it a turd. For 800 I’m not super impressed with mine.

Really. Thanks. Reviews on them seem to be pretty positive. So, what 3-15x or 3-18x scope in that price range would be better?

I’d buy a used cronus for a grand, more zoom but not appreciably larger physically. Not as wide of a field of view but superior in every other way I feel.

Same, I’d pick a Cronus over scopes a lot more expensive until you get to S3/G3’s and even a couple in that price range.

It’s hard to beat. I’ve got MK5HD’s I’m disappointed I bought because the one Cronus I have is really just better in every way except slightly more CA and a slightly duller image.

Thanks guys. I have 2 Gen II Viper PST 5-25x. I have been reading about how the image is "milky" and what do you know I took both rifles to the range and sure enough I noticed it. Both are barely used, each has less than 500 rounds on it. Never abused, torqued down to the proper specs etc. One is on a 223 and the other 22. What a disappointment! I'd like to replace these eventually, but not sure I want to do it right now. Will keep the Cronus in mind. Any particular generation to look for or avoid?

Back to my original question....the 3-15x or 3-18x would be for my AR to plink at distance. Anything with more magnification is going to be way more than I need and will weigh the rifle down more than I would want.

I'm not super impressed with my 3.3-18 XTR 3, but it is probably still the best option for the money.

From 12-18x the eyebox doesn't get tight, but it becomes very sensitive to eye position and the image quality and CA gets extremely bad of mildly off axis.

The reticle, size, weight, turret layout, of the XTR3 still makes it a good option IMO. I'm on the fence about whether the glass in my PST Gen2 3-15 is better above 12x, but the overall package of the XTR3 is definitely a better one.

Maybe the Ares ETR 3-18 would be a solid alternative, but I've personally not used one.
